The China conundrum
Yesterday it was exceedingly difficult to parse what occurred between U.S. diplomats and Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng during the days of negotiations behind the door of the U.S. Embassy. From the perspective of U.S. diplomats they were negotiating a breakthrough agreement that would have allowed Chen to remain in China unmolested as part of a deal guaranteed by high U.S. officials. But something went awry…
…Q: What prompted your change of heart?
A: The embassy kept lobbying me to leave and promised to have people stay with me in the hospital. But this afternoon as soon as I checked into the hospital room, I noticed they were all gone.

That was fast. Obama’s not even stopping the bus anymore.
It seems that our foreign policy has developed a highly spiritual tone. We depend on God to take care of our enemies and our interests. I, however, was always taught that God helps those who help themselves. It’s time we reinserted those pages into into the hymnal being used by the Obama misadministration, or, better, asked it to go back to Chicago. I’m a strong supporter of the latter.
One of the saddest aspects of what is happening internationally, is virtual irrelevance of the USA. The Obama policies haveso destroyed our influence in the world that nobody really looks to see what Washington wants or listens to what it says.
What happened to Chen Guangcheng is an example.
Syd, he did promise a ‘new direction’ to U.S. foreign policy.
