What A Joke

He’s been in office 9 months and has done nothing much

(CNN) — President Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.

Less than nine months into his presidency, Barack Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The first African-American to win the White House, Obama was praised by the Norweigan Nobel Committee for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said. “His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”

I mean, seriously, has he brokered a peace between a warring people? Has he defeated an evil foe and freed an oppressed people? Name one thing his “diplomacy” has accomplished. Has he been able to get his agenda passed in a country where his party holds decisive majorities in both houses of Congress?

Update: Look here for some of the other nominees who sure as hell made bigger sacrifices than someone who flew to Copenhagen and talked about themselves in a failed bid to get the Olympics.

Has the Onion taken over the Nobel Institute?

The Nobel Peace Prize has been a joke ever since they awarded it to Yasser Arafat. It’s no surprise that they’d award it to another terrorist.

  2. Mr. Bingley says:

Guns, i don’t think Obama is a terrorist at all; that’s a strong and loaded word which he’s done nothing to earn and should only be used on people who have earned it. but that’s his problem: he’s done nothing. I don’t know what label to attach to him other than ’empty suit egotist’ at this point.

  3. Suzette says:

Is there anyone who saw this headline this morning and DIDN’T look for the Onion by-line?

This is a game-changer for me. Before I had just a nagging suspicion that behind the fancy suits and plastered on smile, he suffers from great insecurity. He knows he’s not deserving of the laurels people pile onto him. This must have nauseated him when he realized that this out it all out on the global stage – now the whole world knows he is not deserving.

  4. Maybe the award was in concert with the completely revolting headline in our local rag today:

Obama Ready to Accept Some Level of Taliban

Just when I think he and his adminstration can’t get any more gutwrenchingly inept, out comes yet another cave-in to every principle this country stands for.

I’ve never been so sick at heart in my life.

  5. Mr. Bingley says:

Oh, then I guess you haven’t seen this yet, Sis.

  6. I think I’m going to cling even more bitterly to my guns.

  7. JeffS says:

Mr. Bingley, Obama isn’t a terrorist, but he has a lot of thugs working for and/or supporting him.

AND….his administration is fast becoming a collective apologist for terrorism.

So Guns might be wrong. That’s as far as I’ll go.

As for his Nobel peace prize…the Oslo committee just plunged the Nobel peace award into complete non-relevance. AP at Hot Air suggests that this award is a another slap at Bush by those cretins. I think he’s right.

  8. ricki says:

Maybe it’s a consolation prize for Chicago not getting the Olympics?

But between this and the fact that we’ve bombed the moon, I feel kind of like I woke up in Bearded Spock Universe.

Actually, I’ve felt like that for approximately nine months.

  9. Oh, schweet Mary, mother of God. I feel ill.

That happens, like, almost EVERY day any more.

  10. major dad says:

Does anybody give a rat’s ass? Really?

  11. Ebola says:

There’s probably a Nobel prize involved for anyone that does.

  12. Julie says:

So, they give out the Nobel Prize based on IDEAS rather than ACTION? Um, so, if I THINK about curing cancer, can I get the science prize for that? Just wonderin’.

  13. Yojimbo says:

I liked that part about the shared values of the worlds population part. I didn’t know that freedom loving people had so much in common with the taliban and al-Qaeda. Thank you Nobel Committee for opening my eyes!

I’m certainly willing to accept the taliban on certain levels- the room temperature level suits me just fine.

  14. Larry Sheldon says:

The deadline for submissions was the end of January (10 days in office) wasn’t it?

  15. gregor says:

Larry, it was February 1st, so this was based upon campaign promises, not performance, as was pointed out to me earlier today. So sad, so very sad.

  16. Skyler says:

Obama is not inept. He is accomplishing the goals of the CPUSA quite handily. And international socialist movement is rewarding him.

The evil is so thorough people are afraid to see it.

Venezuela is nothing. This is the big prize for communism.

  17. Robin from Central AZ says:

My dear, what were they (the Committee) thinking giving a world class narcissist a “major award” (unless the award was for narcissism itself)? I think we will be thankful to the Nobel committee in the end because I predict that this action will lead “the One” to be even more insufferable, even more ubiquitous in the media – so much so that even his current accolytes will tire of him.

  18. Gunslinger says:

Well, his reign thus far is terrorizing me. So I’ll amend it to “terrorist*”.
