…that would allow, say, drug dealers and thieves into your house in chaotic times of stress?
Crazy? Insane?
In Georgia, they call it the fire department
ST MARYS, Ga. (WLS) – Officials in southeast Georgia are considering a money-saving program that would put inmates in fire stations.
…The inmates would have no guard, but would be monitored by a surveillance system and by the traditional firefighters, who would undergo training to guard the inmates.
Only the government could come up with such an insane idea.

So they are increasing the number of employees? Why should this work be given to inmates when unemployment is so high?
It’s hard to think of even one benefit to this idea.
The only benefit is to the bureaucrats who want to stand out in the eyes of their supervisors.

Yes, I like that as well. Time for them to see what reality looks like. Failing that, how about the local ACLU office? They can even take them home at night so their kids can see what reconciliation looks like.

And I just had another thought….fire fighters choose their profession. Like the military, it works best with volunteers, especially when the situation gets tough. If my a$$ is on the line, I want to trust the people who have my six. I’m certain that fire fighters feel the same.
Now, throw in a felon who took the assignment to get out of lock up. Maybe they’re trustworthy, but probably they’re not.
That’s going to send morale through the roof, I’m sure.

Shit. They can’t even get a good chain gang going to clean up a highway or two around here let alone fight fires.
They use inmates from the local Fed lockup to do all the landscaping e.g. the mowing, planting of flowers, tree trimming etc on the base here along with painting offices and any other work they see fit for them. They pretty much have a free run of the place driving tractors, trucks etc.
