Yet Another First Amendment Trampling

A guy, on the weekend, nowhere near his job site and out of uniform, burns some pages of the Koran.

Naturally, he gets fired

The protester who burned pages from the Koran outside a planned mosque near Ground Zero has been fired from NJTransit, sources and authorities said Tuesday.

Derek Fenton’s 11-year career at the agency came to an abrupt halt Monday after photographs of him ripping pages from the Muslim holy book and setting them ablaze appeared in newspapers.

NJTransit’s management should be fired, and this guy must get his job back.

Paging the ACLU, paging the ACLU…

You have a call on the white courtesy phone.

    (yeah, right)

The “white courtesy phone”? Sounds like racial profiling to me.

  4. major dad says:

He meant there was a whitey on the phone.

Sadly, Transit may have a grounds to fire the guy for this – if he’s still working for them, a fatwa against them could involve a lot of commuters.

I don’t say that it’s good grounds, but it is a consideration.

So anyone should be fired from their jobs for burning the pages, following that line of thinking.

Bull goddamned shit they have a reason.

Strike that, they do: they are afraid. They are intimidated by the threat of violence, which, last I checked, is a crime.

Burning a book, any book, is not.

The only consideration for them should be “should we hold up one middle finger or use both hands?”
