Well, ok, it was 5:30 actually but that didn’t fit in with the Sgt. Pepper’s allusion I was groping for.
Speaking of groping: so, at 5:30 am on a Thursday morning I’m “asked” by a very polite policeman to show id to walk down the public street where I work.

There’s a irony that’s probably lost on most of these folks: they chant and babble and scream about the evils of Corporate AmeriKKKa and how only misery has come from capitalism…while texting on their cell phones and listening to their iPods.

You know, Winston, I thought about it, but he was a nice very polite young fellow and has enough on his plate that I just flashed my driver’s license and he didn’t really even look at it and waved me on my way. They’ll be a time to fight that particular battle but I’m not going to press the issue right now. Let them deal with the protesters first.
I never disobey a cop. I have watched too many episodes of COPS and there’s no way in hell I’m gonna get wrestled to the ground and have a knee jammed into my back while they’re cuffing my wrists. Not without dinner and a movie first anyway.

THIS. This is why I’m so frustrated at these people. It is as if they are blind to the fact that they are making life difficult for a goodly chunk of that “99%” they claim to represent.
If it were me being asked to show ID to a cop? I’d do it, look at him, and say, “I’m sorry you’re being forced to do this.”

I dislike the idea of showing ID just to walk down a public street, but hassling cops is never a good idea.

These people want to end capitalism without realizing at ALL that capitalism is what allows them to eat food they haven’t grown, read stories they haven’t written, and enjoy stuff like electricity and running water.

And what did showing ID accomplish/prove? I’m sure all the loser protesters have ID too. It’s not the Officer’s fault, he’s just following orders but the idea of checking for ID just for the sake of doing so irks me. Here at our local Navy base they ask for ID but they don’t check it against anything, just look to see if you have one. Your ID could say Osama Bin Laden and they would wave you through the gate.
What Major Dad said. Flashing an ID card means nothing without verifying that the ID is valid. We go through this meaningless ritual at some of our facilities. It’s nothing more than a way to say “We’re in charge, chumps, and you’d better remember it!”
And Ricki….it’s a fair bet that these knobs are buying corporate products while they are protesting against corporations. Even cretinous knobs crave a Big Mac now and then.
My understanding is that the anarchy folks carry no idea on themselves, so this is an easy way to weed them.

Does Pace University still have its accreditation? Why? You might want to close down her high school as well. What an indictment of the public school system.

Oh, holy crap, Jeff. I hope he’s wrong but I’m afraid he’s not. Maybe we need to enlist a bunch of burly men (Dems or Repubs, I don’t care, as long as they’re men of honor who don’t want to see the electoral process subverted) to serve as election escorts for those who might be intimidated.
I think you’re right Ricki. It would be a good idea to start planning a reaction force on call for the election. Each area has a team to remove the intimidators from the vicinity of the polling booths. Last election proved the need.
Aw, these little brats don’t have the cajones to subvert any election. They will simply be used as street mime with narrattives being handed out by the DNC to keep the attention away from the miserable job Obama is doing. The union thugs who are now joing the protests are a different matter.
I usually vote absentee but if I thought I was going to be prevented from voting I would vote in person and let them try to intimidate me.
The brats don’t, Yojimbo, but the unions do. Among others. Here in Washington State, I watched them provide security for Senator Patty Murray when she came into town for a campaign stop back in 2010. That included manning a perimeter around the building, and escorting her between the car and building inside a square of 4 burly men. All us TEA Partiers waving signs and flags across the street must have scared the bejesus out the poor woman.
And then we had a series of union attacks here in Washington.
And so on, ad nauseum. I ain’t saying it will happen, I’m saying it’s possible. All of this has the flavor of evaluating and practicing tactics and techniques.
And, come 7 November 2012, I’ll be the first to look sheepish and meekly accept the title of “conspiracy kook” if none of this comes true.
Your far from being a conspiracy kook, I just don’t think they could get away with that much overt action around polling places without the country going into outright revolt. They are certainly not above doing it if they thought they could get away with it. More likely they do it the stealth way like they always do with finding ballots and registering illegals etc..
Oh, they might be able to influence key voting districts, Yojimbo, the places where the difference between loss and victory is a couple thousand votes.
Intimidation, it can do amazing things.
Not to mention, these “protests” are a decent way of riling up their base (read “idiots”), and convince them that the left is Doing Something Good. One of their bigger fears has to be apathy on the part of the leftie base.
Getting out the vote is important to them; every ballot, be it genuine or rigged, is critical, especially when President Zero is bombing across the board. Cranking up “protests” just before the elections could help them get more leftie voters to the polls.
But my motto is “Plan for the worse, but hope for the best”. Which describes my descent into abject cynicism as I age; it used to be “Semper Paratus”; before that it was “Be Prepared!”
