Occupy Wall Street plans mass May Day demonstration to shut down NYC

Protesters to target bridges, tunnels and finance biz buildings; Mayor Bloomberg vows quick police response

The NYPD is bracing for an attempt by Occupy Wall Street protesters to shut down traffic at arteries across the city during a mass demonstration Tuesday.

Using websites and pamphlets, OWS organizers are urging people to help block traffic at bridge and tunnel ports to slow people going to work on May Day.

Protesters — who also plan action in front of several financial buildings — are using the date to strengthen their numbers since the labor movement traditionally holds rallies that day.

“No work, no school, no shopping, now housework, no compliance,” reads a posting on one OWS-related website. “If you can’t strike call in sick. If you can’t call in sick hold a slow down.”

Mayor Bloomberg said the city is prepared to thwart any actions that could cause serious delays in people’s commutes.

Um…shoowah. Like dat’ll happen.

Whitewash: The Warren Report

It seems there’s a little bit of a kerfuffle afoot in the Massachusetts Senate race

Despite claiming she never used her Native American heritage when applying for a job, Elizabeth Warren’s campaign admitted last night the Democrat listed her minority status in professional directories for years when she taught at the University of Texas and the University of Pennsylvania.

From 1986 to 1995, Warren’s name is included in the Association of American Law Schools’ annual directory of minority law teachers, according to records obtained by the Herald.

What’s really interesting is to go read this pretty calm and neutral post at Volokh and then read the comments where the carpet-bombing democratic trolls are out in full force.

Now imagine that it was the Republican who had this behavior in their background.

Red Cross: 16 killed in attack on Catholic worship service at Nigeria university

An official with the Nigerian Red Cross says at least 16 people were killed in an attack on church services at a university campus in the country’s north.

…The attack happened Sunday morning at Kano’s Bayero University. Police say gunmen attacked a Catholic Mass on the campus, using small explosives to draw worshippers out before shooting those who fled.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, though it mirrored others previously claimed by a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram…

I know the Left would find a “Procol Harum” joke in there somewhere, rather than risk a critical shot at “radical” Muslims.

God forbid.

“God Has a Hard-On For Marines, Because We Kill Everything We See”

Especially if we see you rummaging through the place when we get home from an evening out.

And especially if you use our own shotgun to threaten our lives. Bad form, that.

Prosecutors announced Friday they will not press charges against two Camp Lejeune Marines and a civilian who fought for their lives and killed two local men who were burglarizing their Jacksonville home earlier this month.

…After entering the house, the Marine resident noticed his dogs acting strange and found the sliding glass doors leading to his backyard damaged with a pry mark on the frame and a broken latch on the doors.

Skinner came out of the bedroom area of the house carrying the Marine resident’s Mossberg Model 88 12-gauge shotgun, which had been under the Marine resident’s bed. Skinner shined a light in the Marine resident’s face and then struck him in the face with the butt of the shotgun.

Skinner ordered the Marine resident to get on the floor. Everette came out of one of the bedrooms and ordered the civilian roommate and Marine friend, who were coming down the hall, to also get on the floor.

Skinner demanded all of their cell phones and wallets. Everette took their wallets, but all three had set down their cell phones when they entered the house.

Skinner and Everette then told the three men they were going to kill them. Skinner placed the shotgun to their heads and told them he was going to shoot them. Skinner demanded duct tape and rope.

“Once the Marine resident realized that these men were going to tie them up, the Marine resident believed that he and his friends were going to be killed,” Lee said.
Skinner, who had four children, and Everett, who was the father of five, asked the Marines whether they had children. Skinner said he would not shoot anyone with children, but would shoot the ones who didn’t.

“The Marine resident saw Skinner look away momentarily and realized this was his chance to act,” Lee said. “The Marine resident grabbed for the shotgun. He and Skinner started struggling for it.”

The fight ended up in one of the bedrooms. Skinner called for help, and Everette came into the room and hit the Marine resident several times in the head and ear with a crowbar.
The Marine resident momentarily blacked out, came to and called for help. The Marine friend entered the bedroom and Everette attacked him with the crowbar. The Marine resident and Skinner were struggling on the floor.

“Skinner said, ‘You are going to die now’ and squeezed the trigger of the shotgun repeatedly,” Lee said. “The gun did not fire. Apparently, Skinner did not realize that while the Marine resident kept the shotgun loaded, he did not keep it ‘pumped’ and chambered.”

The Marine resident was able wrestle the shotgun from Skinner’s grip. Skinner came at the Marine resident, who was on the floor, and the Marine resident shot Skinner twice in the torso.
The civilian roommate entered the room. The Marine resident shoved him out of the way and ran to the other side of the bed where his Marine friend and Everette were still struggling.

The Marine resident shot Everette in the buttocks with the slug exiting his stomach area. Everette turned around and, believing the intruder to still be a threat, the Marine resident shot him in the right armpit area.

Everette crawled toward an object beneath the bed. The Marine friend broke a wine bottle over Everette’s head and Everette stopped moving. Police found a flashlight under the bed.

So the mug-shots-available-due-to-prior-prison-terms ‘decedents’ (as the paper puts it) have NINE now fatherless children between them and, of course, their families do not believe a word of any of the chain of events. The Onslow County DA, to his credit, basically told them to suck it up. I’m not sure if Al and Jesse will find this compelling enough to make an appearence to protest (Or have I not mentioned ethnicity? My racist credentials are sorely lacking.). I’m pretty sure the fine folks of Onslow were already footing the bill for the children anyway. Call it a hunch.

Richard MacEnroe’s retweet was where I first heard of the incident: a link to this board, with a bare bones account.

The comments are priceless.

Anti-Bullying Speaker Curses Christian Teens

As many as 100 high school students walked out of a national journalism conference after an anti-bullying speaker began cursing, attacked the Bible and reportedly called those who refused to listen to his rant “pansy asses.”

The speaker was Dan Savage, founder of the “It Gets Better” project, an anti-bullying campaign that has reached more than 40 million viewers with contributors ranging from President Obama to Hollywood stars. Savage also writes a sex advice column called “Savage Love.”

Savage, and his husband, were also guests at the White House for President Obama’s 2011 LGBT Pride Month reception. He was also invited to a White House anti-bullying conference.

Savage was supposed to be delivering a speech about anti-bullying at the National High School Journalism Conference sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association. But it turned into an episode of Christian-bashing.

Alrighty, then. According to Todd Starnes’ report, Mr. Savage got downright…sauvage addressing the youngsters, some of whom, UNDERSTANDABLY, took umbrage at his worldly view of things. Good for them, they left!

The mealy-mouthed reaction from the sponsors of the forum was inexcusable.

…The executive director of the National Scholastic Press Association provided Fox News with joint statement from the Journalism Education Association that was sent to members – after a number of people complained about Savage’s remarks.

“We appreciate the level of thoughtfulness and deliberation regarding Dan Savage’s keynote address,” the NSPA wrote. “some audience members who felt hurt by his words and tone decided to leave in the middle of his speech, and to this, we want to make our point very clear:

While as a journalist it’s important to be able to listen to speech that offends you, these students and advisers had simply reached their tolerance level for what they were willing to hear.”

The NSPA said they did not have a prior transcript of Savage’s speech and that wish “he had stayed more on target for the audience of teen journalists.” They also said it provided a “teachable moment” for students.

As for Savage’s attack on people of faith?

“While some of his earlier comments were so strongly worded that they shook some of our audience members, it is never the intent of JEA or NSPA to let students get hurt during their time at our conventions,” they wrote.

However, not once did the NSPA or the JEA offer any apologies to the students or faculty advisors or anyone else in attendance.

Um…HI YA! As SPONSORS of an event geared to a specific D.E.M.O.G.R.A.P.H.I.C., it’s YOUR responsibility, NOT the attendees…let me repeat that…NOT THE ATTENDEES, to make sure that YOUR speakers meet all of the parameters that you have set for the scope of YOUR event. If it’s an “anti-bullying” talk at a journalism conference that’s OPEN TO ALL, then YOU are responsible for the content being appropriate FOR ALL.

Also it should actually have something to do with STOPPING bullying. Somewhere in there.

And while it was never the “intent of the JEA or NSPA to let students get hurt“, none the less, YOU DID hurt them. Like bullies.

Ouchy.

For Some Folks The Answer Is Always More Spending

If it’s causing some pain than I’d say it’s working pretty damned well

Spain Downgrade Proof Austerity Not Working

Ratings agency Standard & Poor’s downgrade of Spain’s credit rating Thursday for the second time this year highlights the fact that austerity alone is not enough to tackle the euro zone debt problem. Experts tell CNBC that European leaders need to focus on growth now.

“Clearly, austerity and growth cannot go hand in hand… I think we need to see European leaders break out of this pure austerity mode and try and do something different in terms of pro-growth policies,” Vasu Menon, Vice President, Group Wealth Management, OCBC Bank, told CNBC Asia’s “Cash Flow.”

Spain has been downgraded because they’ve spent way too damn much money…just like every other government. Spending HAS to be cut, there will be pain felt because we’ve all lined up at the trough for far too long.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: insisting that the solution to massive deficits can only be more spending is like saying that an alcoholic can drink himself to sobriety.

Enough About Dogs, Columbian Sluts and Slow Jam! Did YOU Know Romney WOULDN’T Have

Huh? Huh? DO YA?!?!

Well, ya do NOW…

Obama video hints that Romney wouldn’t have nabbed Bin Laden

Nothing should surprise anybody. Can’t wait to see the Romney response.

ths update: Syd has Mitt’s response in the comments, but I thought I’d share Maverick’s here:

“Shame on Barack Obama for diminishing the memory of September 11th and the killing of Osama bin Laden by turning it into a cheap political attack ad. This is the same President who once criticized Hillary Clinton for invoking bin Laden ‘to score political points.’

“This is the same President who said, after bin Laden was dead, that we shouldn’t ‘spike the ball’ after the touchdown. And now Barack Obama is not only trying to score political points by invoking Osama bin Laden, he is doing a shameless end-zone dance to help himself get reelected.

“No one disputes that the President deserves credit for ordering the raid, but to politicize it in this way is the height of hypocrisy.

“The Obama campaign asks whether Mitt Romney would have made that decision. Of course they want to focus on this one tactical decision because the other decisions this President has made have harmed our national security.

“He turned his back on the people of Iran when they rose up to end their tyrannical, terrorist-supporting, Holocaust-denying government, giving them no assistance as they were crushed in the streets.

“He has repeatedly thrown our ally Israel under the bus and jeopardized our shared security interests.

“He tried to bring Khaled Sheikh Muhammed, the mastermind of 9/11, and other Al-Qaeda terrorists into the middle of New York City to stand trial in a civilian court.

“He disregarded the advice of his military commanders and pulled all of our troops out of Iraq, and Al-Qaeda is making a comeback there as a result.

“He disregarded the advice of his military commanders again by telling our enemies that we are leaving Afghanistan and then putting our mission and our troops at risk by short-changing our commanders on the ground.

“He watches passively while the Assad regime in Syria, Iran’s closest ally, kills thousands of its own people in an unfair fight, and his response to this mass atrocity is to create an ‘Atrocities Prevention Board.’

“With a record like that on national security, it is no wonder why President Obama is shamelessly turning the one decision he got right into a pathetic political act of self-congratulation.

“Pathetic.” Nails him perfectly.

Don’t Floss On Tuesday!

Yeah! That’ll stick it to the Man

On the first of May, the Occupy Wall Street movement hopes to leverage the labor holiday known as May Day and muster enough people power to blockade the Golden Gate Bridge—assuming, that is, that striking bridge workers take the lead.

Whilst there are only a few Occupyistas milling about Wall Street these days there has been a notable upsurge in the police presence as the Twittero Braggadocio try to organize the anarchists

The world’s biggest banks are working with one another and police to gather intelligence as protesters try to rejuvenate the Occupy Wall Street movement with May demonstrations, industry security consultants said.

…After evictions and arrests from Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park to London that began last year, the movement against income inequality and corporate abuse will regain strength, said Brian McNary, director of global risk at Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations, a subsidiary of Sweden’s Securitas AB. (SECUB) He works with international financial firms to “identify, map and track” protesters across social media and at their assemblies, he said. The companies gather data “carefully and methodically” to prevent business disruptions.

Ought to be fun.

…A native of Pakistan, Kahn came to the United States in the winter of 1967 with nothing but an acceptance letter from the University of Illinois. He found lodging at a local YMCA for $2 per night. In an interview with Forbes, Kahn explains his motivation for coming to the United States.

When asked what experiences motivated him to come to America, Kahn said, “I heard the streets were paved with gold. I found that to be true.” On his second day, Kahn accepted his first job as a dish washer. He made $1.20 per hour. Looking back on his first job, Kahn recalls his thoughts:

My God, what a country. I’m making more money than 99.9 percent of the people in Pakistan. This can’t get any better. Then I began engineering school, which was hard. And I would be saying, you know, if I can make this kind of money without a degree, why should I even be going to engineering school?

After pledging a fraternity and developing a social life, Kahn quickly realized that he had higher aspirations than dish washing. After graduating, he landed a position at Flex-N-Gate, a company that sells equipment components and mechanical assemblies for cars. In 1978, Kahn opened his own business with $16,000 in savings and a small business loan. Two years later, he bought the company he used to work for and turned it into one of the most successful companies in the country. He had now gone from an impoverished Pakistani immigrant to a billionaire. Kahn had achieved the American Dream. But he wasn’t finished there.

Oh, hell no, he wasn’t. He just bought the Jacksonville Jaguars this past November for $760 million dollars.

“Aiming” Is So Old School

This is pathetic

Two Harlem cops yesterday fired a staggering 84 shots at an armed thug after he squeezed off one round at them — but the punk incredibly survived and was charged with slaying his sleeping kid sister and trying to kill their mother, authorities said.

…The uniformed cops — a sergeant and police officer — unleashed the barrage of bullets from 70 feet away. They each reloaded their pistols twice.

…The police officer fired 45 shots — one round in his gun’s chamber, two 15-round magazines and all but one round in his third magazine. He told investigators he thought he was out of ammo. The sergeant also fired one shot he kept in the chamber, two 15-shot magazines and eight rounds from his third magazine, Browne said.

The scumbag allegedly murdered his little sister, who seemed a sweet dear girl, and tried to kill his mother. He was hit by 14 of the 84 rounds the cops fired.

Did the cops even look over the car or did they just crouch down behind it and fire wildly?

You Know That Poor, Bloodied Fellow in the Hospital Bed a Post Down?

The one the mob of 20 people beat “for Trayvon”?

There’s been a little bit of clarification as far as who’s to blame according to WKRG:

Tuesday 7:30 p.m.
Tensions are running high on Delmar Drive.

Before Lauren Vargas’ live shot on News 5 at 5:00, a black woman who lives on the street started yelling at Lauren saying the kids are the real victims.

The woman seems to think the news coverage has been “unfair”.

The Pensacola press is probably trying to prevent race riots by not reporting on this. Good luck with that.

For computer users, a few mouse clicks could mean the difference between staying online and losing Internet connections this summer.

Unknown to most of them, their problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers around the world. In a highly unusual response, the FBI set up a safety net months ago using government computers to prevent Internet disruptions for those infected users. But that system is to be shut down.
