Iceland considers pornography ban

Iceland could become the first Western democracy to attempt censorship of the internet under radical proposals to block online pornography.

The government is considering introducing internet filters, such as those used to block China off form the worldwide web, in order to stop Icelanders downloading or viewing pornography on the internet.

A law forbidding the printing and distribution of pornography is already in force in Iceland but it has yet to be updated to cover the internet.

So Icelanders will have to resort to carrying home DVDs of Obama speeches and pressers in brown paper bags smuggled in from Greenland or the Canary Islands?

I used to live there. To us Americans it was quite sensational that the women would tan topless on the roofs of their office buidlings at lunch time, even on base.

But they have always had a radical government, and this comes as only a mild surprise.

@Skyler. Sigh. I’d as soon tan topless in Iceland (even in summer) as in Siberia. I live in SW FL for a reason… ( and, no, I’m not answering that question.) But good for them.

And their government needs a good kick in the butt.
