But here my friends is a real and true goddamned Hero in all of this
BOSTON’S extraordinary manhunt began with eight words, written down by one of the victims of the marathon bombing, who has now been hailed a hero.
He wrote: “Bag, saw the guy, looked right at me”.
Jeff Bauman had been waiting for his girlfriend to cross the finish line when a man wearing a cap, sunglasses and a black jacket over a hooded sweatshirt looked him in the eyes and dropped a bag at his feet.
Two and a half minutes later, the bag exploded, tearing the 27-year-old’s legs apart.
A picture of him in a wheelchair, bloodied and ashen, was broadcast around the world as he was rushed to Boston Medical Centre. He lost both legs below the knee.

The first thing he did when he came round, woozy from medication, was to ask his brother, Chris, for some paper and a pen.

He is amazing beyond all words.

All but one of the news sites I visited had a cropped picture of Mr. Bauman, as you have here. The un-cropped shot I saw showed that the blast left only his left tibia, snapped above where his ankle and foot were, no fibula, and just a hint of the upper calf muscles below the knee.
Hero doesn’t begin to cover it.
Yeah, I’ve seen the un-cropped photo, and I wish I hadn’t. Was it Insta who talked about how many lives tourniquets had saved?
Yeah – I saw it too, and I’ll agree that hero doesn’t begin to cover it. I suspect that the first lady and I have very different things that make us “proud to be an American.”

Mr. B: Don’t know if it was Insta who said that, but it’s true. My first responder training was all about not using them, but that was in the context of a whole limb that won’t stop bleeding. When you have such traumatic damage as that, a tourniquet is the only was to stop massive blood loss.
The conspiracy theories have already started, saying that he is an actor and a large group of people were in place to stage his fake injuries, including strapping on prosthetic limbs that look like a traumatic amputation.
