Homeowners should consider fitting CCTV to trap burglars, the country’s most senior police officer declared yesterday.
Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said police forces needed more crime scene footage to match against their 12million images of suspects and offenders.
And he called on families and businesses to install cameras at eye level – to exploit advances in facial recognition technology.

Because you see they have no interest in preventing crime; only in tidying up some of the mess afterwards.

Brits must be really naive or didn’t read 1984.

Which is really about all they can do, anyway.

    Shotguns are nice…

Scotland Yard and the rest of the UK constabulary should consider doing their jobs rather than dumping it onto those they’re supposed to be helping.

This clown makes Inspector Lestrade look like a genius.

I’ve got Netflix, so I know a lot about how the British kill each other. Not a lot of handgun usage. And a lot of kills outside of buildings. So, I don’t know how much this will help them, poor chaps.

“Thirty to forty group!” yapped a piercing female voice. “Thirty to forty group! Take your places please. Thirties to forties!”

Winston sprang to attention in front of the [CCTV], upon which the image of a youngish woman, scrawny but muscular, dressed in tunic and gym shoes, had already appeared…

“Smith!” screamed the shrewish voice from the [CCTV]. “6079 Smith W! Yes, you! Bend lower, please! You can do better than that. You’re not trying. Lower please. That’s better, comrade…”

There’s something else that bugs me about this: the full-bore tendency of the Crown to prosecute the homesteader defending his own, rather than the actual offender. Which means that this CCTV malarky will serve only to accumulate evidence against the residents when they protect themselves. At the very least, their faces will be added to these databases of criminals and such, except they’ll be matched very neatly with addresses and employer info and such.

Don’t feel so bad, England. 950 years is one hell of a run. Just keep some room in the handbasket for us, would you?
