The WaPo has a GOP’s Greatest Hits List from last night that pretty hilarious ~ or painful, depending on what side you’re on.

I almost, and I stress “almost”, felt sorry for the mods last night as they were completely outplayed at every turn. It was quite an impressive display by the candidates and quite a sad confirmation of media bias by the mods (and the CNBC station). I hope the candidates don’t think this now gives them license to attack future mods because the next debate will not have such lightweights in play. The next debate will be hosted by Fox Buniness, where some very bright talent hang their hats. Neil Cavuto, the network’s managing editor of business news, and Maria Bartiromo, (ex of CNBC) the network’s global markets editor, will moderate the main debate, along with Gerard Baker, the Wall Street Journal’s editor-in-chief. I like Bartiromo and Baker, however, Cavuto, I love. He’s one of the brightest guys in news today and I think we can count on this debate to be focused, disciplined and hard hitting. There won’t be any stupid questions and if candidates try to wonder away from the question, Cavuto won’t hesitate to bring them back. Of all the debates to date, I’m betting this will be the most meaningful, at least in terms of dealing with actual issues, not fluff.
In response to asking what he thought of the debate, my business partner said the following:
Only if one of the candidates had left his podium, crossed over to the table, ripped Harwood’s lungs out and then skull****** his dying corpse could it have been saved.
He’s always been rather wishy washy.
The WaPo did their best in that article to make it look as though the poor little moderators were brutally assaulted by the mean Republicans.
They have a point, after a fashion.
The moderators (the term ‘inquisitors’ being frowned on) were poor. They managed to make Candy Crowley look reasonably au courant and even-handed.
And they were brutally assaulted by the Republicans, being bludgeoned with the truth (their lack of familiarity with this evidently added to their astonishment) to the obvious enjoyment of those within and without the immediate audience.
As usual, the WaPo, in reaching exactly the wrong conclusion has, in the words of Samuel Clemens, got the words right but doesn’t know the tune.

If I was a betting man, I’d have a few bucks down on SNL opening the show tomorrow night with some parody of the CNBC debate. It will be interesting, given that SNL is also NBC, to see how they deal with this. I mean its a comedy target the size of Texas, so for them to ignore it, would mean that Lorne Michaels was given specific orders not to make fun of the mods.
We’ll see.
@ Syd – they may want to. However, I expect that they’ll have been given those specific orders.
