“Wish Island” Is Not Quite Fantasy Island

I wonder if the tvs there will get Oxygen?

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran plans a female-only island to boost tourism in a northwest province, the Tehran-e Emrouz newspaper on Wednesday quoted a local official as saying.
…”There will be no men on the Arezou (Wish) island. Public transport, restaurants and other facilities will be staffed only by women,” Aghai said.

I can’t imagine that the bars will be too hopping.

Might be a good time to invest in the local scuba diving shop.

  2. Emily says:

Au Contraire, Mr. Bingley. If I were on an island with no men, I think I’d spend an obscene amount of time at the bar.

  3. Mr. Bingley says:

And what perchance do you think you’d find to drink at a bar in Iran, Emily? It would be quite possibly the saddest bar scene in the world.

  4. Gunslinger says:

Great, an island full of burkha clad women…
“Come to Wish Island and see the Living Piles of Laundry!”
    I’ll pass.

  5. Dave E. says:

Well, Gunslinger, the point of the island is so the women can actually wear their swimsuits and go without headscarves etc, something denied to them on some other beach areas in Iran. There’d be no men around to be tempted you know and no way for them to get on the island. Except…

  6. Gunslinger says:

Thanks for the clarification, Dave. So basically, Wish Island is a kind of leper colony for women who actually want to be and act like women rather than burkha clad cattle.
The Iranian government and all of the Islamofundies deserve their own special ring in Hell.

  7. Mr. Bingley says:

Actually, it’s pretty smart of them, Guns. You get all these uppity women who have unnatural post-bovine aspirations out on one island, let them run around a bit, and then OOPS! a little ferry sinkage action on the way home, will of allah and all that.
    End of problem.

  8. Dave E. says:

You’re right about the special ring of hell, Gunslinger. But you and Bingley are missing the point I think. An island of women with no men around: Leper colony? Or opportunity?
