ChiTown OUT in the First Round!

How awkward for Michelle’s children.

UPDATE: A CNN (Ed Henry in Copenhagen) reporter just said, “Oh, to be a fly on the wall in AirForce One right now…
UPDATE: Axelrod spinning now on CNN: “I don’t view this as a repudiation of the President or the first lady…” Plus some blather about “internal currents”, like the “IOC President pushing for Spain”.

I think there were other things at play there that we simply couldn’t overcome

“But I’m not suggesting anything nefarious!!”

UPDATE: The Bingster pretty much nailed it:

…this is the first thing obama’s done that has actually saved the us money

UPDATE: For commenters in the “Those knocking Obama here are truly pathetic. As if Chicago not getting the games is some indication of him.” camp, I would like to point out that the second he got ON that airplane, HE made it all about “him”. Especially since no other president had EVER attempted to personally influence an Olympic selection. Perception is everything on the world stage and one’s cache (or lack there of) isn’t to be squandered on something truly as trivial as who gets to be bankrupted by an Olympic nod.

Or so you would have thought. The spanking just administered by the committee is resonating all over the world:

…Mr Obama was greeted — as usual — like a rock star by the IOC delegates in Copenhagen — then humiliated by them. Perception is reality. A narrow defeat for Chicago would have been acceptable — but the sheer scale of the defeat was a bombshell, and is a major blow for Mr Obama at a time when questions are being asked about his style of governance.

Oh, that’s just great for us.

Thanks Barack.

World to the Obama Family: “Drop dead.”

So much for rebuilding America’s image, huh, Barry?

  2. JeffS says:

    Re: update. Oh, yeah!

Not to mention Mayor Daley’s office. Heh heh heh!

  3. Mike says:

Who will be blamed? Do the IOCC members listen to Rush Limbaugh? Are they just a bunch of racists? Maybe we can blame it on Bush?

Oh, wait, I know. It’s the tea-baggers fault!

  4. tree hugging sister says:

Being a traditionalist at heart, I’ll blame Bush.

It seems to be the thing to do when the current administration has no answer for something. Which is pretty often.

  5. JeffS says:

“I don’t view this as a repudiation of the President or the first lady…”

Maybe not, but it’s clear that the Preshizzle ain’t got the pizzaz he thinks he does. So maybe this’ll knock down some people a notch or two.

  6. Skyler says:

This is still good. It gets us to stop talking about the nationalization of healthcare. What is congress doing while we’re looking at Copenhagen? Who cares about the “O”Lympics anyway?

  7. Skyler says:

I mean, still good for Obama. Oops. Sloppy writing.

  8. Val Prieto says:

The IOC is filled with imperialist, monarchical, racist, thug demagogues! How dare they snub The One!

Dont they know Big O is Big O? And that he could win every single gold medal single handedly, even in team sports? And that Michelle, Mrs. Big O’s strong arms and long muscular legs are the aim of every athlete now and in history? The pinnacle, apex and acme of the physically perfect human being?

  9. Ave says:

Just got back from Denmark now. Obama’s visit was hugely well recieved there, whether or not the U.S. was to get the O games…Denmark will have their “O” moment anyway because Oprah is doing a program about the positive attitude of the Danish people (apparently according to some poll they are the most contented people of any nation in the world). I can vouch that the Danish people are truly lovely and friendly. They seem not to suffer from the grasping, greedy perspective about life that can cause negative feelings. They are quite wonderful, really. ( OK – full disclosure – I”m half Danish, which helps explain my fondness for chocolate and good beer, but Bingley will tell you that I’m not particularly nice, I’m sure. Maybe due to the dour Scottish part of me…and isn’t he mostly Scottish?) Cheers to all.

  10. xlib says:

Does this mean the proud michelle isn’t proud anymore??
    Racism, pure and simple.
    It’s Bush’s fault.
    Rush Limbaugh caused this.
Who will buy all slum property in Chicago?
Do you think the IOC saw the video about the thugs in Chicago beating that 16 year old boy to death last week?
I mean, the story wasn’t covered in the msm.\
    OHHH the humanity.

  11. Val Prieto says:

Imagine all those connected cronies out in ChiTown that actually bought slum properties thinking they were gonna make millions with the Olympics.

  12. tree hugging sister says:

(Ave, Bingley swears you’re nice as…a Danish! WHAT are you talking about?!)

I think the Danish rock. We had a lovely Danish dinner here as well, after the cartoon brouhaha.

And I don’t doubt for one second that there’re some pissed off landholders, Val. That’s deeLISHus, just thinking about it.

  13. Jeff says:

Those knocking Obama here are truly pathetic. As if Chicago not getting the games is some indication of him. If that’s the case, then not finding weapons of mass destruction (as Bush was unable to do) means that the last 8 years were a complete failure, right?

  14. Taylor says:

To be honest, I’m not surprised Chicago was outed in the first round. I really think Chicago was only put in the running because it was the hometown of the Obamas. I think Rio de Janeiro is a great choice, and it will be the first time for the Olympics to be held in a South American country.

    Very exciting.

  15. th55 pilot says:

Look, this was clearly collaboration with the vast right-wing conspiracy. We’re absolutely positive that Dick Cheney had a hand in getting our president “dissed.” If you people can’t see that, you are clearly not reading your ACORN newsletters.

  16. Mr. Bingley says:

Hey Ave! Glad you made it home ok; sorry for the sucky reason for the trip 🙁

  17. tree hugging sister says:

I think Rio will do a spectacular job, considering the massive parties they put on so well already. I wish them all the best.

Those knocking Obama here are truly pathetic. As if Chicago not getting the games is some indication of him.

See, Jeff? Lemme ‘splain. The second he stepped on that airplane to go to Copenhagen, he WAS making it about “him”.

That’s why PRESIDENTS should (and always HAVE) ~ you know ~ stay home from things like this.

Unfortunately, Obama can’t STAY HOME for nothin’.

  18. Mr. Bingley says:

I adore Rio and Brazil; I think they deserve it.

It’s really the best possible outcome for us, anyway: it won’t cost us a dime and it’s in the same time zone so we’ll be able to watch all the good events live at a reasonable hour.

  19. major dad says:

How in the F*** do you bring in Bush and WMD in a discussion on the Olympics and Obama. That’s right, when in doubt bring up Boooosh.

  20. Skyler says:

I guess ACORN doesn’t get the votes in Copenhagen like they do in the US. 🙂

  21. JeffS says:

Unfortunately, Obama can’t STAY HOME for nothin’.

Yeah, the dude won the election back in November 2008, and he’s STILL campaigning.

    He’s definitely an empty suit.

  22. Gary from Jersey says:

    Dammit! Newark lost again?

  23. nightfly says:

“Hey, this is great! So, the weed’s legal and stuff around here, right?”

Sir… we’re in Copenhagen, not Amsterdam.

    Huh? Copenhagen?

    Like the chewing tobacco, sir.

Oh! Well, if it’s named after tobacco, we can tax the whole city. Now where’s the IOC? I have to reveal my greatness.

Sir, you just asked the head of the IOC where the IOC was.

Well, hurry up and find the rest of them, then. We’ll be staying one of those whaddyacallems – brothels – local flavor.

    HOSTEL, not brothel.

Eh, well, brothel scores more in Scrabble, right? Heheheh, I said “scores.”

…unfortunately, The Lost Won is going on TV later tonight to talk about this nonsense. I wonder if someone will call the entirety of South America “racist.”

  24. Teresa says:

A few million people in Chicago just breathed a HUGE sigh of relief. You might have felt the breeze whoosh by out here on the east coast. Heh.

  25. Gunslinger says:

    Christmas comes early to Chicago!!!

Obama get booted in the tush, his real estate owning buddies in Chicago get bupkis, the crony construction contractors get squat, and Mayor Daley may have just lost his next re-election.

    And the taxpayers win.

I’m cracking open a beer as I type this.

  26. Gunslinger says:

“Those knocking Obama here are truly pathetic.”

Those of you still worshiping that clown after the dismal failure his Presidency has been thus far are beyond pathetic.

  27. JeffS says:

Teresa, I once lived in Chicagoland, and I truly empathize with ’em. Man, the new road construction ALONE would have driven people bonkers.

  28. Gunslinger says:

The road reconstruction already in progress is driving people bonkers.

  29. JeffS says:

Well, there’s ALWAYS road construction in Chicago, Guns, that’s how the politicians pay off their cronies. In this case, there would have been even MORE road construction, with the people even MORE bonkers.

God, I’m glad I moved out of there.

  30. cmblake6 says:

Another question, has this “rock star” set up a “concert’ for Samoan relief? POS!

  31. Dave E. says:

Major Dad-It’s the Bush Corollary to Godwin’s Law: As any discussion of Obama’s faults and failures proceeds, the probability of some dumbass leftist bringing G.W. Bush into it approaches one.
