Obamacare Schadenfreudarama
It feels pretty good to watch the whole thing fail.To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the unraveling of Obamacare.
First, the obligatory caveats. It is no laughing matter that millions of Americans’ lives have been thrown into anxious chaos…
…But come on, people.
If you can’t take some joy, some modicum of relief and mirth, in the unprecedentedly spectacular beclowning of the president, his administration, its enablers, and, to no small degree, liberalism itself, then you need to ask yourself why you’re following politics in the first place. Because, frankly, this has been one of the most enjoyable political moments of my lifetime. I wake up in the morning and rush to find my just-delivered newspaper with a joyful expectation of worsening news so intense, I feel like Morgan Freeman should be narrating my trek to the front lawn. Indeed, not since Dan Rather handcuffed himself to a fraudulent typewriter, hurled it into the abyss, and saw his career plummet like Ted Kennedy was behind the wheel have I enjoyed a story more.
We were crying…
Last night I watched Eurotrip again, which I’m not ashamed to say that I bought on Amazon.
It’s just a damn funny movie.
Now this
Oh this is a magnificent Maleficent…well, her name was Carabosse, actually
Ah, Natalia Dudinskaya; commie that you were you still kicked some serious ass.
“Hello? Hello? HELLO?! Is there ANYBODY IN THERE?!”
…but you had to read the bill to find out.
Why Divorce Attorneys Will Love Obamacare
Someone in the White House thinks marriage is a bad idea.
Earlier this year, TFT showed that a high-earning couple, each with incomes of $400,000, would save about $27,000 annually if they divorced and filed their taxes separately. Now we learn that the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, is dangling a similar fate in front of middle income earners.
A typical 40-year old couple with two kids could save $7,230 a year by divorcing if one partner earns, say, $70,000 and the other $23,000. Sixty year-olds earning $62,041 each a year would save $11,028 annually if they broke up.
…Let’s look at the situation of a 40-year-old couple with two children. The spouses’ annual earnings are $70,000 and $23,000, respectively:
The couple’s annual unsubsidized premium while married is $11,547 (“tax credits” disappear at $92,401 for married couples with two children). But if they divorce and shack up while giving custody of both children to the lower-earning spouse, their combined annual premiums, at $4,317, will be more than $7,200 lower. That’s over $600 a month. As was the case in the previous example, the savings from divorce will gradually increase every year. Those parents will be torn between doing what Western civilization has considered morally right for millennia and their children’s financial well-being.
(There may be contrary examples, but Blumer was unable to find a single instance where staying married led to a lower net health care premium compared to divorcing and living together.)
Clearly, many couples who are considering marriage, especially after several years of seeing formerly married couples regress to cohabiting, will look at Obamacare’s “wedding tax” and say, “Never mind.” The effect on society will be incalculable, and certainly not for the good.
So WebMD has come out as a big supporter of Obamacare.
I’m sure it has nothing at all to do with the millions they are getting from the Feds
Two months before enrollment began in the Obamacare exchanges, the administration’s top health care official heaped praise on WebMD for launching an online resource to help Americans navigate the complex law.
The consumer health care site had the occasional nice thing to say about Obamacare, too. In one article, it predicted doctors might pick up more patients and crowed in an article titled “7 Surprising Things About the Affordable Care Act” that many consumers already had received insurance refunds under the law.
But what neither Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius nor WebMD mentioned at the time was that the company, which millions of Americans regularly read for health news, also stood to earn millions of dollars from a federal contract to teach doctors about Obamacare.
Everybody’s lining up at the Government trough: these websites, the idiots trying to build websites, the insurance companies that are happy the government is forcing people who would not normally buy insurance to buy it.
It’s all good fun until the bills come due.
Lying crap weasel.
My goodness, there will be no love for the Associated Press when the Administration goes through this story
The secret, dirty cost of Obama’s green power push
November 12, 2013 7:18 AM ET
By By DINA CAPPIELLO and MATT APUZZOCORYDON, Iowa (AP) – The hills of southern Iowa bear the scars of America’s push for green energy: The brown gashes where rain has washed away the soil. The polluted streams that dump fertilizer into the water supply.
Even the cemetery that disappeared like an apparition into a cornfield.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
With the Iowa political caucuses on the horizon in 2007, presidential candidate Barack Obama made homegrown corn a centerpiece of his plan to slow global warming. And when President George W. Bush signed a law that year requiring oil companies to add billions of gallons of ethanol to their gasoline each year, Bush predicted it would make the country “stronger, cleaner and more secure.”
But the ethanol era has proven far more damaging to the environment than politicians promised and much worse than the government admits today.
As farmers rushed to find new places to plant corn, they wiped out millions of acres of conservation land, destroyed habitat and polluted water supplies, an Associated Press investigation found.
Five million acres of land set aside for conservation — more than Yellowstone, Everglades and Yosemite National Parks combined — have vanished on Obama’s watch.
Landowners filled in wetlands. They plowed into pristine prairies, releasing carbon dioxide that had been locked in the soil.
All of these subsidies and mandates (and a hell of a lot else, frankly) need to be eliminated and stripped out of that ungodly abomination that the the Farm Bill.
The corrupt alliance between the hyper-regulatory state and agribusiness must be pared back.

Find ways to donate @huffpost.com. But not @salvationarmy bc of their position on gays. #TyphoonHaiyan

GOD, their self-absorbed smugness BURNS MY ASS.
I’ve NEVER met ANYBODY like the Salvation Army in a major disaster zone and I’ve been in THREE. They’re the first in, the last to leave and they work their asses off 24/7 to help EVERY SINGLE SOUL IN NEED, it doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, orange, green, purple, gay, bi, straight or zombie. They want YOU taken care of as best they can and they do it.
From a previous post with Hurricane Katrina overhead:
UPDATE: While I can get online, let me first thanks Bingster for posting this, but please, please let me add my fervent appeal for your donations to go to the Salvation Army. We have unfortunately gotten to see all the aid agencies in action. The Salvation Army has impressed us tremendously with their selflessness and dedication to people’s immediate needs and their continuing ones. They were literally a Godsend after Ivan and stuck around through thick and thin for months afterwards. For everybody. Feeding people, clothing them, sheltering them, holding hands, getting answers. If you need it, they’re there if there’s anyway on earth possible for them to be.
Not to mention the fact, they have the infrastructure, knowledge and well-oiled disaster relief machines to do it. With the ADDED BONUS that EVERY DOLLAR YOU SEND FOR THAT DISASTER GOES to RELIEF IN THAT DISASTER. Not like the predatious Red Cross (and other “relief organizations”), who reserve the right to use those dollars where “they see the need”, like headquarters, salaries and jaunts.
Oh, I am HOT.
ths update: Wow. She actually paid attention to my tweets in reply defending the Salvation Army. And learned something. How really nice. (And I MEAN that in the NICEST way possible.)
@treehuggingsis I appreciate u informing me of this. I deleted the tweet, though greater message was simply 2 give back. I hope every1 does.

The scenes of devastation are just starting to emerge and they are horrible.
Thousands dead, bodies everywhere, looting and the desperate search by the living for supplies while the government struggles with the logistical nightmare of trying to get relief to the area.
If you can, please give to the Salvation Army or other such organizations of your choice.
I just can’t begin to imagine the damage here if a storm with 200 mph winds came ashore.
Please take a moment to thank a veteran for all the sacrifices they and their families have made on your behalf.

EVERY SINGLE BOARD, these AWESOME, PHENOMENAL kids give me hope, and keep my head out of a gas oven for one more year.
OO-Rah and Semper Fi!!!
Now that many Democrats up for re-election next year have suddenly decided to become bomb-strapping gun-wielding terrorists and agitate for a delay in the Obamacare implementation the question is what to do to make sure everybody knows that they OWN this shit sandwich. I like Ace’s plan
Permit a delay, but with two important caveats:
1. The entire law must be functioning and in place by August 1, 2014 — three months before the election — or else it lapses immediately. It just sunsets. It’s done.
This includes the employer mandate, which has been delayed until after the elections. The whole shebang must be in place and operational as of August 1, 2014, or bye-bye to it all. No more suspensions, no more delays. If the law isn’t in operation in full by its own terms it self-repeals on August 1, 2014.
2. The law is also amended to include a sunset provision, which makes it expire August 2016. If the law is as popular as Obama claims it will be, Democrats should have no problems whatsoever whipping up support for re-authorization three months before the 2016 presidential elections. Right?
Hey, it’s a Common Sense Solution™ to a problem!
The Republicans show that they are “reasonable” and willing to work with the other side but make darn sure everyone knows that this disaster was completely forced upon people by the Democrats.
