On Hobbits

So what do we do now that this debt ceiling package has passed? In and of itself it’s pretty useless insofar as reducing the debt goes, but let us hope that it has served as a wake-up call on the unquestioned expansion of the government.

Let us hope that the relentless shrill cries of unmitigated horror from those who can abide in no realistic appraisal of spending have struck a chord with folks between the Elite Coasts, opening their eyes somewhat to Washington’s contempt for them as they struggle with their own highly-constrained checkbooks, as Our Anointed Betters in Washington insatiably spend ever more with complete disregard for fiscal prudence or appreciation for the effort required to actually earn the money that is taxed.

Let us hope that in local elections this Fall and in national ones next year that they will seek out candidates who will cut expenditures not in ten year’s time but now.

Because we simply have to act, and act now.

The Hobbits, we scorned, looked-down-upon folk, have been roused.

Let us pray we remain so.

Boy, did you rise to the occasion today. That’s one of the most succinct descriptions of our collective screwing I’ve seen in a while.
