Life’s An Average I Guess
We’ve had a very mild Winter so far.
Alaska? Not so much
FAIRBANKS – Winter continued to show her love of Interior Alaska by bestowing yet another cold snap on its beleaguered residents this weekend.
The temperature at Fairbanks International Airport hit 50 below zero Saturday morning for the first time since 2006, while a low of 57 below was reported in North Pole.
Fort Yukon and Huslia were the coldest Interior communities at 63 below zero. Tanana hit 61 below zero Saturday morning. Bettles, at 60 below, broke its previous record of 56 below, which was set in 1989.
Yowzer.
I didn’t know Al Gore was in Alaska!
Just gonna get worse with the Arctic setup they’ve got going there right now. Arctic jet is down into Canada so there’s a shitload of subsidence.
What are the odds that the jet stream will shift into the US of A, Ebola? Are we looking at another cold snap along the 49th parallel?
I tell ya if we get real winter weather now it will be a disaster, as just about every plant thinks it’s March and is starting to bud.
Same here, Mr. B; I keep on expecting the front yard tree to bloom.
I’ve had Forsythia blooming off and on all Autumn and Winter. Iris and Daffodils are starting to pop up and Snow Drops are everywhere. I have bags of mulched leaves I’ve saved to use as insulation just in case we do get hit, I don’t want to lose any of my herbs or flowers.
You might be getting your Iris delivery sooner than Spring if this keeps up, Bing.
Hey, Ebola! Here’s another chance for you to hook up with leftie chicks!
And you are fully qualified, to boot. And with a lot more choices than a Maverick rally, I’m sure.
I worry about the dog. The creepy crawlies haven’t died off like in other winters. I actually pulled a tick off her a couple of weeks ago – normally not a problem from roughly Thanksgiving through the end of February.
It could be worse in Alaska. They could be plagued by vampires on top of the cold.
Nightfly-Unless the jet stream lets loose and we get a prolonged cold snap in the next month, yes, we’ll see a lot more pests this year. Everything from ticks, to mice, to deer. I’ll still take the mild winter after the last three or four though.
My aunt just moved from Anchorage (where she had lived for 25 years) to Palm Springs. Looks like she picked a good time to do it.
