Elizabeth Warren’s embattled campaign: Cherokee tie found 5 generations ago
Desperately scrambling to validate Democrat Elizabeth Warren’s Native American heritage amid questions about whether she used her minority status to further her career, the Harvard Law professor’s campaign last night finally came up with what they claim is a Cherokee connection — her great-great-great-grandmother.
“She would be 1?32nd of Elizabeth Warren’s total ancestry,” noted genealogist Christopher Child said, referring to the candidate’s great-great-great-grandmother, O.C. Sarah Smith, who is listed on an Oklahoma marriage certificate as Cherokee. Smith is an ancestor on Warren’s mother’s side, Child said.
It made me think of something funny that worked in the other direction as far as my late, much beloved father-in-law was concerned.
I was the “Shanty Irish” addition to the family, since their blood ran pure English/German, he’d always assert with a big wink. His sisters set me straight one day. Pure ONLY, they said, because Dad didn’t count anybody he hadn’t met, like the Irishman in the line who died around 1899.
I’d have gotten on him, but family lore says we have an Italian countess somewhere in the mid-1800’s, and even lower-level royalty is still not enough to add “Italian” to our ethnic role-call.

I recall reading that it takes at least 1/16th ancestry to claim Native American status. In which case, sorry, Liz!
And maybe I’m wrong, but it’s silly to claim such ancestry as a qualification for the Senate, and even sillier that Warren’s campaign didn’t bother researching the matter until called on her claim.
The word that springs to mind is “pathetic”, followed swiftly by “miserable fraud”.
What a pretentious hag. But this is the same neck of the woods that thought nothing of Blumenthal’s made-up war stories, so who cares if she’s Pocahontus, or not, right? Gives her something to whine and be comforted for in their eyes.
Blood, blood,blood. Race, race, race. Ethnic Studies programs and balkinization. Focusing on what you are instead of who you are or what you can become is tearing this country apart. “The Black vote”, the “Hispanic vote”, the “womens vote” Enough.
The point continues to be that this is about trying to win votes from an ill-informed public and nothing to do with race, ethnic background or stabilizing the economy. It the Dem way. Hoodwinkery = “FORWARD” in lefty language.
One of my ancestors was a cousin of Louis the 16th, should I go buy a throne, d’ya think?

My Grandfather was born in Lisbon, which was over run by the Moors in the 8th Century. I am thus a black man because I’m sure someone somewhere between the 8th Century and the 1880’s when he was born is in my bloodline. It’s in my family lore.

Let’s see… my mother’s great-great grandmother on her father’s side was native American. Gee – I’m a minority! At least as much as Warren. lol. Yeah.
