Curiosity Killed The Rover?

NASA’s marketing division puts out a Hollywood-esque advert for their latest mission to Mars

In these times of constrained budgets I’m all fror showing folks how incredibly complicated these missions are, but this seemed overly cheesy even by my pedestrian standards, and I can picture the Public Affairs Liaison ticking off each little box in his checklist as they trot out the engineers…hip white guy CHECK… wizened hispanic CHECK… Indian sub-continent female CHECK…asian male CHECK!

Barf.

What with the exciting orchestral soundtrack I kept expecting to hear Don LaFontaine’s voice…

Let’s just hope NASA doesn’t confuse imperial and metric again…

In all seriousness I hope it goes exactly as planned. I’d much rather have my tax money go to these sorts of things than to Solyndra.

I disagree. I think the video is awesome. I’ve watched it several times and showed it to friends. The landing will be just a few days after I return home from my summer Marine training and I can’t wait to see how it goes.

Knowing NASA though, they will make it very very hard to watch even though they have their own tv channel.

I think it’s pretty spiffy (but I’m still amazed by microwave ovens so what do I know?):)

The CGI is great, but the breathless the-president-is-in-the-bunker delivery is beyond annoying.

We learn something from these sort of expenditures.

Well, we learned something from Solyndra, too – even if the Bagman in Chief didn’t.
