A Scary Number
There’s a report in today’s Financial Times quoting the CEO of Kraft as saying that a minimum of 1/6th of their revenues come from…food stamps.
Good god.

Poor people have to have their mac & cheese and their Oreo cookies, too.
Mac and cheese, probably ok (as long as it’s not pre-cooked from the deli).
There’s a lot of food-nazi in the food stamps (along with a LOT of very justified ‘no luxuries’ like booze/etc.) No offense, and I like my drinks too – but if you are on food stamps, you need to be buying FOOD (and save your black market earnings for your booze/cigs, etc.).
I’ve live poor – I’ve seen. (And I was once on food stamps – for one month – actually 3 weeks – I offered to give the rest back and they said ‘keep them’) – was just out of college, and the company I worked for collapsed. Ah well, it was educational, but I haven’t done it again. Too much pride, I guess.
It just shows the level of dependency that the government is trying to foist upon both people and industry; that’s the truly scary aspect of it.
