Lara Logan Lays It Out Straight on Afghanistan

yet again.

Reporter Lara Logan brings ominous news from Middle East

…Leadership Committee, and the Chicago Sun-Times was a sponsor).

Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11.

Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd. The Taliban and al-Qaida have not been vanquished, she added. They’re coming back.

“I chose this subject because, one, I can’t stand, that there is a major lie being propagated . . .” Logan declared in her native South African accent.

The lie is that America’s military might has tamed the Taliban.

“There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan said. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,” who claim “they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban,” she added sarcastically. “It’s such nonsense!”

Not hard to believe, is it? What’s hard to believe is that she has a chance to speak out and that there weren’t howls of outrage from other quarters about this speech. I know she’s not afraid to and I’m certain she’s no fan of “apologists” for the Taliban, after witnessing her dismembering of Katie Couric’s lead-in outrage line in THAT memorable interview.

What WAS the surprise comes at the end of this little blog entry…

…Logan even called for retribution for the recent terrorist killings of Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three other officials. The event is a harbinger of our vulnerability, she said. Logan hopes that America will “exact revenge and let the world know that the United States will not be attacked on its own soil. That its ambassadors will not be murdered, and that the United States will not stand by and do nothing about it.”

God bless her.

The author quibbles about “journalists didn’t use to call for this” and “they didn’t use do that”, and he wallows in moral quandaries about the right of her as Logan/journalist speaking from the heart before admitting, perhaps, it’s time someone did.

No one seems to have those qualms when pushing certain candidates, do they?

God bless her.

She bought me a pizza one time. And then she came to our battalion’s Marine Corps Ball last year. She helped smuggle a puppy out of Afghanistan for our Marines. She is beautiful, super sharp, and one of the friendliest people I’ve ever met.

And has displayed remarkably good sense, as is evidenced in this report. She should be a hero to every American.

  2. Julie says:

She has my respect, not just for her sharp reporting, but for coming out of the hell she went through in Egypt last year and handling it with dignity and class.

We need journalists that report actual facts and may even comment on them (agree or disagree, but facts are facts).

We don’t need those that only spew the party line talking points and demonize those that disagree.

That’s why Lara Logan gets our ears and respect, as would any journalist that reports the truth.

Problem is, too many Americans don’t know what’s true and could care less.

Skyler, I’m jealous beyond all measure.

As for Logan, we’ve thought the world of her for a long time. She was never scared to go into places others feared tread and would say EXACTLY what she saw and what THEY’D experienced.

And we stood up for her in our own little way when she nearly lost her life in Egypt and the hate started flowing, not just from Leftist quarters, but from the Right. The Gateway Pundit, who early in blogging days had been a friend of this blog, stuck to his guns about his vile, hateful post that her “liberal belief system”
(headlined “after sexual assualt-beating-cbs-reporter-logan-learns-about-political-correctness-the-hard-way”) basically got her what she deserved in the Square, we refuse to link to his stories and, while our blogroll is not a national treasure, it is to us and he’s G.O.N.E., permanently, not to mention we flagged it at the time in Twitter, etc. How hypocritical of us if we continued to associate with his like?

She’s something else and people need to speak up for what’s right, regardless of someone’s political leaning. I admire her tremendously.
