And the common touch is very important if you want to keep the money your family has plundered from the world and the people of Great Britain for about 1500 years through torture and oppression. Otherwise, people might start to wonder why they still subsidize these inbred people. But I guess marrying a cute babe and swinging a base ball bat well is enough to justify being a head of state as a birth right.

I firmly believe that monarchy, aristocracy, and other caste systems are horrendously bad ideas and I don’t like how Americans have been fawning over them in recent decades.

IIRC, the British government (separate from the British monarchy) acquired title and income for all (and I mean ALL) royal properties back in the late 1700s or early 1800s, in return for an annual stipend to support the royal family.
This deal was struck because the Crown was spending above and beyond their income, and needed a bail out (sound familiar?). Up to that time, the English Throne had been declining in terms of power and influence, but this put the Crown firmly into the “reigning lightly over” position, rather than “ruler of” England.
So the Queen is the official Head of State, but has virtually no legal influence. Which means Prince Charles The Dork is merely an embarrassment, not a disaster, like Obama.
And the only “proceeds” ever “taken” by one house or another were the official properties set aside for the Royal Family, which are maintained through a budget that is much less than we pay for Obama and his Queen.
