    The one in the foreground was a kit but I’m much happier with the ones I made myself: I just took some 12″ wide pine boards and cut them as I saw fit.

    I want to make one or two by hand, but out of cedar, not pine. Gotta get more mobile, first.

    Did you see the picture of the “Mars Rat”? No doubt a rock, but damn, it looks like the front end of a squirrel.

    Maybe p’shop him into my red garden??

    Yeah, cedar certainly would last a lot longer but I figured I’d try this and my gardening skills out first before splurging on it.

    I had boxes when I lived in the burbs. Will probably go back to them one day. Plants are much easier to maintain like that than they are in the ground. When they’re raised like that, there’s also less bending over. Didn’t really care about that then. Do now.

    Cedar is good – and repels a lot of bugs. (Win/win.) And raised beds are wonderful – you can control danged near everything.

    P.S. Must admit though, regarding raised beds and backs – I’m old enough to want to do them in brick and about 2.5 feet high (I’m 5′).

    I did tell you to despair not! With a lot of rain and a few unbearably hot days, everything is growing like a weed. Ah yes. They too are growing, but my tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, leeks and herbs are well ahead of them. How is the fig?

    The fig trees are tiny, chancy. They just barely survive the winters and put out a few leaves…
