They Can “Censor” You All They Want To
You self-centered idiots, because they are a private company and not the government
NEW YORK (Billboard) – Pearl Jam fans and Internet watchdogs were up in arms Thursday after it was revealed that AT&T Inc. censored portions of the rock band’s live concert cybercast on Sunday.
While performing “Daughter” during the annual Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, the band segued into a portion of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall,” during which frontman Eddie Vedder sang, “George Bush, leave this world alone” and “George Bush, find yourself another home.” Those lyrics were missing from the broadcast.
Let’s review, shall we?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or
of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition
the Government for a redress of grievances.
Private companies can, and should be allowed to, censor whatever the hell they want when it is something they are paying for. If you don’t like it then don’t take their money.
“This event shows that companies like AT&T will risk the appearance of censorship by turning off the sound on a webcast that’s being viewed by thousands of people, just because it works counter to their financial interests,” said FOMC executive director Jenny Toomey.
No shit, Sherlock.

Orioles cap I think, but whatever. Yeah, this is a load of crap for a number of reasons. This deserves a good fisking if my buddy Jim doesn’t get in the way. 😉

No need to rise to AT&T’s defense, folks. They are backpedaling all the way. They claim it was an error. Could be they don’t want to antagonize Pearl Jam fans, who are mostly teens and younger adults. You know … the people who send 800 text messages a day.

Pearl Jam is a stupid band, but AT&T shouldn’t have censored them — because look what it got them: unwanted negative publicity, and it gave an untalented, washed up dirty-hair band the burnish (fake I know) of being “oppressed.”
Next time, though, that a lame-brain celebrity spews some moronic “Bush sucks haha I’m so brave” comment and the broadcasting companies let it go through, it would be nice if us rightwing beasties didn’t jump up and down frothing at the mouth about how awful it is that our leftwing media let celebrities say awful things about the president. I say let our leftwing media and our moronic celebrities have a free reign on making themselves look like idiots. Who knows, maybe even Al Qaeda will get sick of having such halfwits on their side and they’ll surrender out of sheer disgust.
