Swill Shoveling

Part of the downside of living in the Winter Wonder Landia that is New Jersey

(who needs the Rockefeller Center Tree?)

is that one’s vehicle tends to get swept up in all this warming that’s occurring

So what to do? Well, as the Alpha Male and Certified King of my Castle I get to shovel.

A lot.

But luckily for me my beloved Bride knows exactly the fuel to keep my engine going at 8 in the morning:

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts

And, um,

Balvenie Double Wood 12 year old whisky

See how perfectly the snow on the hood of her car keeps it at the right temperature? That’s why I didn’t clean her car off.

Properly prepared to face the driveway de-glacerization I dove into the task with reckless abandon, and, ho! The end of the driveway draws ever closer…

Time to re-energize with a little sip

By all that is Holy! How’d that happen?

Honey!!!!

Gawd I love that woman.

You used her car as a beverage cooler? Now I’ve seen everything! 🙂

  2. Teresa says:

Now why didn’t I think of that! It takes about 2 hours to clean our driveway (with a honking huge snowblower). My husband did that today, but I never thought of the booze. I’ll have to ask him if he’d like a supply next time. LOL.

I do not miss snow. Or rather, I do not miss snow that sticks around for any appreciable amount of time. A little dusting that’s gone in a day or two is fine.

But it looks like you’re perfectly poised to deny all that Gorebal Warmening.

  4. Skyler says:

I hate to say it, but small plastic cups with little bit of yellowish fluid inside tend to remind me more of a certain test we take in the military than anthing I’d want to drink. And it makes snow yellow, too.

  5. Mr. Bingley says:

That was THS’ initial reaction as well, Skyler 🙂

We ended up with around 2′ in our little corner of Virginia. Me and my two boys started shoveling the driveway on Saturday while it was still coming down, and went back at it again on Sunday. Our neighbor came by with his Kubota bucket loader when we had about a quarter of the driveway to go and cleared out the rest. Probably spared me a cardiac event.

  7. Suzette says:

Bingley – I should have figured that you were a PopTarts for Breakfast kind of guy.

  8. Gary from Jersey says:

Twenty inches and 50 mph winds in my Neck ‘o’ Jersey. Three-foot drifts, stuck cars, crying orphans everywhere. We started digging around midnight and finished mid-afternoon. Then the plow buried all our driveways again.

Believe Mr. B, ye of little faith: straight shots do wonders when you’re behind the shovel. So do manhattans with orange bitters.

I tried to walk the Official Dog in the stuff on Saturday night, not realizing how bad it had gotten since the afternoon… she vanished. She leaped off the front step of the porch (she loves snow) and *whooomoph*, she was gone – just the leash and her little shih-tzu tail. It was like fishing – she suddenly started springing out of the snow, trying vainly to keep above level, while I reeled her back in. I am not ashamed to say that I laughed myself hoarse.

I had to shovel her a path to the sidewalk for the next walk. She stopped every once in a while to stand on her hind legs and peek over the top of the edge, no doubt mistrusting.

  10. Mr. Bingley says:

I’ve become rather partial to Manhattans made with Maker’s Mark. Yum.

Luckily we didn’t get that sort of wind by us, Gary, or I fear I would have lost some trees which would have made life…rather unpleasant.

  11. Gary from Jersey says:

Maker’s Mark manhattans: the godhead of all cocktails. Try it, but go easy on the cherries because too much sweetness upsets the che, whatever that is.

You’re lucky the wind passed you by. It was so strong it actually blew the snow off Deal Lake. Why our trees survived is a mystery.

  12. Val Prieto says:

I feel for you man, it got positively arctic here in Miami yesterday, with temp dropping down to a glacial 65 degrees. If this keeps up, I’m gonna have to move further South.

  13. Mr. Bingley says:

I got an extra shovel if you feel like coming North, Val.

    And lots of whisky…

  14. Fred says:

indeed, you are lucky man…..with such cold overthere you may drink all conhaque and uisque that you love, without give any excuses for your dear wife. Also, re-energize by clean the snow, you dont need to pay the ginansiun….you see..
    I am jelous….
