Visible From Space: World’s Biggest Beaver

dam

This woodland construction is the world’s biggest beaver dam, which at 2,790ft is more than twice the length of the Hoover dam and can be seen from space.

The mammals use trees, mud and stone to make a type of moat where they can use their swimming skills to evade any predators.

…It is located on the southern edge of Wood Buffalo National Park in Northern Alberta, Canada.

While beaver dams are often found to be around 1,500ft in length, this one has surprised biologists because of its length.

Officers with the Alberta Bureau of Construction were on their way to the site to assess whether the beavers had filled out the correct permit applications for the construction.

Oh, I thought you were talking about Tasmania.

  2. Skyler says:

Heck. We can read license plates from space.

I think you missed this important point:

“The dams are an important part of the ecology and wider environment and climate change can be judged by the spread of the dams.”

first point. Everything is evidence of global warming. Even after it’s proven to be a fraud.

Second point. When man builds a dam it is seen as destroying the earth. When beavers build massive dams it’s an important part of nature.

    hehe, good catch, Skyler

  4. Skyler says:

Do beavers have to file an environmental impact statement?

  5. Yojimbo says:

Of course they have to file one. They were slapped with a fine once for not doing so. Been gnawing on them ever since.

  6. Dave E. says:

I say we pelt them with lawsuits.

  7. Gary from Jersey says:

Pennsylvania guy was fined because beavers built a dam on his property without a permit. No joke. I can only marvel at the People’s Democratic Republic of Canada have in mind for this global warming catastrophe.

    Call in the Dam Busters!

  9. nightfly says:

Protest forming in three, two, one…

“We can’t allow our own habitat to be altered in such a wanton fashion,” said Emmet Otter, whose jug band protest group OMFG* picketed the site on Wednesday. “My boss’ dockside restaurant is three feet underwater thanks to these damn beavers… dam.”

WHEW! Glad you clarified that *, Diptera, cause that’s NOT where MY mind went. Surprisingly enough, I know.

  11. Yojimbo says:

    Glad that was clarified, otterwise…..
