He’s Taken His Last Swim To Alcatraz
RIP, Jack LaLanne
(Reuters) – Jack LaLanne, a one-time sugar-holic who became a television fitness guru preaching exercise and healthy diet to a generation of American housewives, died on Sunday at age 96, his daughter said.
LaLanne, who became U.S. television fixture in his close-fitting jumpsuit starting in 1959 and came to be regarded as the father of the modern fitness movement, succumbed to pneumonia following a brief illness at his home in Morro Bay, along the California’s central coast.
“He was surrounded by his family and passed very peacefully and in no distress … and with the football game on Sunday, so everything was normal,” Yvonne LaLanne, 66, told Reuters.
…”I can’t die,” Jack LaLanne would say. “It would ruin my image.”
More recently, the Juicer Guy. I remember him from the 60’s on our black and white. Seemed like a great guy. RIP
He was always very positive and upbeat, wasn’t he Syd?
The coolest of dudes. I hope they’ve got a huge honkin’ box o’ Twinkies or DingDongs for him up there. He’s earned them.
There was a pretty good bar right next to his health club a couple miles from here. I’ll always appreciate him for that.
The man is probably trying to get St Peter to walk to the Pearly Gates every morning, instead of taking the express chariot. RIP.
I remember his TV show from when I was a kid. He struck me as a good guy who really practiced what he preached.
I remember his daytime TV exercise show. Cool guy with high energy, but I must admit: the ballet shoes spooked me.
