Who cares what they say, bunch of cheese eating losers…
I’m confused. Aren’t they already not members?
50 million Frenchmen can be wrong.
Merde!
I’d like to know how the US can become “non-members”.
I’m with Gunslinger.
My father had a (much older than he, and supremely competent) secretary (waaaaaaaaaaaay back when) who used to send us “US OUT OF THE UN) missives after she retired. And she did so until her death, 25 years ago.
We thought she was nuts. We’ve rethought…
Jeez.
Not surprising. France has been hostile to Israel since de Gaulle turned against that country for winning the Six Day War. Muslims are swamping the place, so the government thinks it must appease them, and sticking a shiv into Israel is the generally accepted procedure for such appeasement. It’s a socialist government now, and we have been seeing over the last 20 years how antisemitism has become a fixed part of leftist ideology, under the lying sobriquet of anti-Zionism. Since anti-Zionism basically means the destruction of Israel, which would mean a concurrent genocide of Israel’s five million Jews, anti-Zionism does not seem to me to be distinct from antisemitism. Finally, the Quai d’Orsay has always been antisemitic. The surprising thing is that there has been any sympathy for Israel in French government circles at all in recent years. Sarko’s personal thinking must have caused that, for the French President has immense powers in foreign affairs. Things are now back to normal.
Seriously, I don’t get it. Palestine is not a member of the UN. Why would anyone care if France votes to keep them a non-member? I’m not a UN expert, is there some orwellian definition of non-member that I’m missing?
I believe you can be seated at the table with “non-member” status vice not being there at all.
