Besides Cringing at the Sound of His Voice, the Other Reason I Didn’t Watch Obama Last Night?
That speech should have been given DAYS ago. To calm things down immediately. It wasn’t an hour after the shooting and you could already see where it was going. Cut controversy off at the knees, soothingly let folks know adults are in charge and, sternly, that ONLY the facts, ma’am, are acceptable.
He needed to establish command before the Krugmans Pod People had a chance to take over the narrative.
He blew it.
Again.
You decide what he gained by waiting. I’ve got my own bitterclingerhater ideas about that.

Eh. I prefer a slower response from higher up. The emergency had passed, and we are not children. We are capable of responding without being told what to do. “Don’t tread on me” is a good way of putting it.
Normally I’m with you, but this has spiralled out of sight. Allowing it to escalate to death threats does not engender confidence…as if I had any in the President to begin with, but say I did…in your average citizen. He needed to be running his yap ~ which, strangely enough, he ALWAYS seems to find time to do 8 or 10 times a day NORMALLY(?!?!?!) ~ by Monday, latest.
Did you read the AP account of his speech? Apparently, the heavens parted and the spirit of Winston Churchill shone down upon Him. He didn’t even need his teleprompter!
We did, however, get the AP subtly suggesting that his visit directly led to Giffords opening her eyes for the first time shortly thereafter, and the not-subtle statement that Obama “humbly conceded” that nobody could know what set off Loughner.
Humble concession… as if talk radio and Palin’s Voodoo Map really DID do it, but you know, we’ll be big about it and concede the point…. we can’t REALLY know for sure.

I could care less about Obama’s speech at this point. The legacy media, however, can line up and kiss my entire ass.
I see your point, ths, but I think we the people have done quite well in voiding the leftist response. To use violent imagery, they were given enough rope to hang themselves.
Had he responded earlier, the msm may have done more to hide their true agenda. As it turned out, more people now it.

So, if one of them is telling a fib and you had a fiver to bet, would you put your money on the brain surgeon or the POTUS?
I don’t think anybody actually needed another secular sermon from “the most sanctimonious man in the room”…
OK – I must correct myself. He “bluntly conceded,” not “humbly.” I should have written it down for later instead of trusting on my memory. I’m struggling to see how the correct adverb changes the “report” for the better, though.
Meh, this event was all about Obama, and not the victims. The speech was sugar frosting over an old brick.
O shut up for days because he didn’t know what to say. Period. His handlers let the dogs loose on the MSM, waited to see the response then told him what to say. So he waited, got maximum exposure yet did almost nothing to reign in his base. This guy gives narcissim a bad name.
By the way, did you notice the event was more a high school pep rally for His Annointed Ass (just check out what that student body president had to say) than a memorial for the victims.
Cheering and applause is so classy at a memorial service. O just can’t pass up political theater.
Obama went to the memorial to deflect from Sarah Palin’s speech and her previous remarks.
The speech meant nothing to me.
But the worst thing? The people who chose to cheer for their rock star, instead of solemnly remembering the tragedy that brought them there in the first place.
I just wish pols of both parties would stop doing these memorials. They just come off as oppurunistic events, and the cheering crowds do not help that impression one bit. Let the families be, I say.
*heh* I’ve been calling the podpeople you referred to the Mass MEdia Podpeople Hivemind for years. (And yes, “MEdia” is intended.) It’s an unthinking collective with predictable, knee-jerk reactions to any stimulus. If it weren’t a juggernaut of toxic waste, it’d be boring.
