So sorry! We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.

Oh, that’s quite sad… I’m sorry to hear it, Ms. Sister.
But be assured that even now he’s chasing squirrels and gamboling through huge piles of leaves, and barking at a steady succession of delivery men, cars, and mail carriers – and it must surely be the most interesting place he’s ever smelled…
Good dog, Schmacks. Good dog.
Major Dad, Ebola, BooBoo and I want to thank you all from the bottom of our broken hearts. We were incredibly blessed to have the most wonderful houndie for such a wonderfully long time. This is so hard. Your taking the time to leave thoughts for us takes a little of the edge off the raw spot and we so appreciate it. We truly do. Thanks friends.
I think it was James Thurber who said (and I paraphrase): “we give them the time we can spare and the love we can spare, and in exchange a dog gives us his absolute all. It’s the best deal mankind has ever made.”
My deepest condolences on the loss of your beautiful, loving friend.
What lovely, kind, wonderful doggie people have left their thoughts here and it’s been hugely comforting for us, you have no idea. The blog has been it’s own therapy, as Swillers here know, because I’ve gotten to foist pictures of my schweet wabbie in his latest ‘stay warm’ coat or sweater (to the general merriment of all, but, dang it, he was 152 years old or so!). Schmack Daddy was always a most accomodating model and I would tell him what everyone had written. (…well, everyone except Kraut’s, bwahahaha!) He understood every word. That houndie could fly the space shuttle.
We appreciate all your kindness, gentle words and thoughts so much.
My condolences. It’s tough to lose such a loving friend.
now I feel bad for having made fun of him in his sweater…sorry to hear he is gone.

He was one of the best dogs ever and I bet he and Pignose are getting acquainted about now.
I’m so sorry 🙁 I’m sure he’s in doggy heaven watching over you all.
No words can stem the grief at the loss of such a loved one, but know how blessed you both are to have shared each others lives.
What a great looking fellow. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Wahhhhh.
Children will break your heart all your life…
But your pets will only break your heart once.
Deepest sympathies for your loss. I’ve said goodbye to a few over the years, and I still miss them terribly.

I’m so sorry – what a beautiful dog. Cherish your memories always.
