And the Beat Insanity Goes On

Court of Appeals takes up Corrie lawsuit
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will hear arguments Monday whether there is merit to a lawsuit by the family of Rachel Corrie, the 23-year-old activist from Olympia killed by a bulldozer in the Gaza Strip in 2003.
The defendant in the case is Caterpillar, which made the D9 bulldozer involved in her death.
…Cindy and Craig Corrie, the woman’s parents, allege Caterpillar violated human rights and committed war crimes by knowingly selling its equipment to the Israeli army, which used the bulldozers to raze Palestinian homes and endanger people. Rachel Corrie was run over by a bulldozer driven by an Israeli soldier as she tried to block a home from demolition.
We are essentially arguing that you cannot knowingly provide substantial assistance — the means to commit war crimes, which is essentially what Caterpillar has done here,” said Maria LaHood, with the Center for Constitutional Rights, on the Corries’ legal team.

I can see how their daughter was WHACKO impassioned enough to jump in front of a bulldozer to begin with ~ family genes will out, you know. And, as major dad succinctly notes: on these grounds? If we were Mercedes-Benz, we’d be poopin’ our drawers right about now, since they’ve recently qualifed as ‘weapons of mass-destruction’.

And the Nutzo Ninth actually accepted this steaming pile of equine effluvia?

  2. Mike Rentner says:

That this is even being taken seriously is absurd. The ninth communist circuit had better follow the law for a change.

  3. The_Real_JeffS says:

Lord, I thought that lawsuit was dead! Alas, the movement to beatify Corrie as patron saint of pancakes moves on.

  4. Off topic, but oddly related, the SB and I went to IHOP for breakfast this morning.

Ken – what no Dunkin’ run? America (except for Pensacola) runs on Dunkin’, ya know.

  6. Tainted Bill says:

If Caterpiller is liable for how it’s customers used their product, then Porsche and Krupp should be very afraid, Mitsubuishi too.

  7. nightfly says:

Forget all that – there won’t be a gun manufacturer in the known world if this suit succeeds. Not that I think it will, but I may be underestimating the sheer idiocy of the Ninth Circuit.

  8. Gunslinger says:

The Ninth Circus Court would allow Al-Qaeda to sue terrorist victims for defamation since the victims made Al-Qaeda look like savages by dying and getting injured at the hands of terrorists.

  9. John, it is true that DD makes America run (well, them and Krispy Kreme), but somehow IHOP just seemed so appropriate.

  10. Dave J says:

Of course this points out, yet again, the insanity of the Ninth Circuit. But it also points out that it’s long since past time to repeal the Alien Torts Act, which effectively opens up the federal courts to lawsuits about any conceivable harm anywhere in the world.
