Another Stupid Amendment Defeated
At least something good has come out of this Congress:
The House on Tuesday rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, ending for another year a congressional debate that supporters of the ban hope will still reverberate in this fall’s election.
The 236-187 vote for the proposal to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman was 47 short of the two-thirds majority needed to advance a constitutional amendment. It followed six weeks after the Senate also decisively defeated the amendment, a top priority of social conservatives.
Good to know this is one of the most pressing issues facing the nation these days.
Retards.
Retards is right.
It would be the worst thing for all concerned if this pferdkaese passed. (Sorry, channeling the Spider there. It’s not a nice slang.) The second the Congress thinks this is something they can define, it becomes something that they can regulate – and then grant or refuse at whim.
One question, from a spinning POV – why does this nitwittery suddenly sail under the banner of “socially conservative”? Conservatives tend to desire freedom from government intrusion, not the reverse.
I’m not quite sure what a ‘conservative’ is anymore, ‘Fly.
I could be a Conservative!!
Oh, yes I yam, I yam!
I don’t know ‘fly – I think a lot of “social conservatives” have been closet nanny staters for a very long time. They just have different goals from the socialist nanny staters on the left.
yep, that’s true, KG, there certainly are some who want to rein in things a bit too much from the other side, as well.
Ayn Rand explained it this way:
“The conservatives reject reason in favor of faith, the liberals, in favor of emotion.”
I could be a Conservative if I WANTED to!!
Oh, yes I yam, I yam!
I guess that puts sis in the “emotion” category.
I could be a Crabby Pants Mr. Summers if I WANTED to!!
BUT I DON’T!
