“As I Write These Words, the Enemy Is Plainly Within Sight Across the River”

…But, dear God, what brave men I shall lose before this business ends.

God bless them, every one.

Happy Fourth of July!!

And God bless you and yours, too.
    “O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Via the Freepers – All 4 verses”

“Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

Don’t hear that last verse often, more’s the pity.

Oh – and You Tube ‘All Four Verses’. I defy you to keep both eyes dry. (Yeah, the men too – this isn’t EMO stuff – it’s stuff that counts.) Through all four verses. And the repeat of the first. Good luck!

Why, why do we mostly hear only the first? There’s a whole history in the song. But we only hear the fireworks.

    Happy Independence Day, Y’all.

I have to check with my doctor. My allergies always act up when I get to this scene in the movie.

I was just watching clips of this. Molasses to Rum to Slaves, The Egg, Sit Down John, the voting… Superb all around. I need this on blu-ray, like, faster than immediately.

“Fellows, I’d just like to mention that if we’re all arrested right now, my name’s the only one on the damned thing!”

My God, what they risked and suffered for our ungrateful hides…
