Park department staff is recommending reducing bonfires at the two beaches this summer and possibly banning them altogether next year.
The park board will hear the recommendation Thursday, and the city plans to run public-service announcements and hand out brochures later this month about the effects of bonfires on global warming.
According to a memo to the park board from the staff released Thursday, “The overall policy question for the Board is whether it is good policy for Seattle Parks to continue public beach fires when the carbon … emissions produced by thousands of beach fires per year contributes to global warming.”
Tell you what, Washington: If you really are concerned why don’t you ban Boeing and Microsoft from your state? They clearly have a more deleterious effect on Gaia’s well being, assuming your theories are correct, than a couple of hundred wiener roasts a year. Make a difference, guys! Fight the power!
And leave the bonfires alone, because your soon-to-be unemployed butts will need every bit of heat you can get.

Saw this on Ace of Spades, right underneath another post about a climate scientist refusing to release raw data to other researchers…why?
“We have 25 or so years invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it. There is IPR to consider.”
Yup – how dare you find something wrong with how I’ve manipu adjusted (darnit) processed my information! I may have to make a new theory based on my facts and not alter my facts to confirm 25 years of funding PROGRESS.
I’d rather that we ban Seattle from Washington State. Or at least all those envirotards running rampant over there.
I’m passing through there tomorrow on a totally avoidable weekend jaunt, so they can eat my extra large carbon footprint.
Earth-caring Seattle citizens should set the example and ban all CO2 emissions.
I think that banning bonfires in Seattle is a great idea since the liberals in that state get a dose of their own medicine concerning the global warming fraud. Next, I hope they outlaw (or severely increase taxes on ) cars in Washington state. It would serve the citizens right. Ha ha ha!! I just love it when the liberal and refuted idea of man-made global warming, which was designed to destroy capitalism and take away citizens’ rights, BACKFIRES and takes away their rights!!!
Let’s also shut down the space program!!! Did you see all the pollution that the space shuttle made on takeoff the other day!!! Shut’er down!!!!
Also, the Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Seahawks must be REALLY causing global warming with the airplane-driven travel schedule. Shut’em down!!!! No more sports teams!!!
