Breaking News At Ace’s

After an IED attack on the Benghazi consulate in June, the State Department did..er, nuance

An IED was deployed against the Benghazi Consulate on June 6th. This is from a media briefing at that time– when the media was actually still asking questions like this. Probably because it was safe to ask questions like this, as the IED did not kill anyone.

Go to Ace’s and read it. Basically, State did nothing to increase security.

Jesus.

If this is indeed true then Ambassador Stevens was an idiot, the security officer at the Embassy is an idiot and the State Department is a bunch of idiots.

  2. JeffS says:

Can’t say for sure about the first two, Major Dad, but the last is a given.

  3. Kathy Kinsley says:

Major Dad, I think you’ve got it. But I’ll tentatively second JeffS – it IS possible that the first two tried and were refused. But, from what I’ve known of embassy personnel elsewhere, I doubt it. We may never know.

But, as JeffS said, the third is a given.

If I’m the Ambassador and I know of a recent attack on a consulate, that it’s the anniversary of 9/11 I might just take some precautions. If I’m the security officer at the Embassy I’m damn sure going to have everyone on alert and insist that the Ambassador lay low or have a full security team. News reports now are that the Embassy was warned, I stand by my first statement.
