But You Can Give Me a Good Old Crucifix in Urine Anytime?
“We’re walking around and people are looking at us suspiciously, asking ‘Is this what Muslim women are like? Are they oppressed?’ That directly offends us,” said Sada Ahmed, Harper College student.
“The statement was that people or women wearing the hajad, or veil, are repressed. These women that are walking around campus don’t feel that way. They feel liberated wearing the veil,” said Ahmed Rehab, Council on American-Islamic Relations.
As opposed to being indirectly offended? What? I missed this when it happened. Maybe you did too.
Months ago nobody I talked to remembered the irreverant act of putting a Crucifix in urine. I almost doubted it happened; I’m glad you brought it up.
I didn’t see any Christian uprising, only peaceable words about the distress that it caused.
Jesse L.
Exactly, GALA. Exactly. That was the infamous Piss Christ by Andres Serrano circa 1987. And while it about gave Alphonse D’Amato, et al, an apoplectic fit, everybody got to see it if they so desired and it stayed in exhibition. No one rioted, no one burned anybody in effigy. Plenty of people DID wonder seriously about the artist. You are free in this country to be completely tasteless and offensive, just as you are equally as free not to go to said exhibition of artistic excrement.
That little college would have been falling over themselves to keep it up if it had been a Jewish or Christian protest theme. And the photographs were actually very well done. All exposed body parts were artfully covered with arms, etc. a la Demi Moore’s pregnant cover. Craven cowards caving like that.
They feel liberated wearing the veil
Yes, just like those other folks felt ‘liberated’ in the good old Arbeit Macht Frei days.
It’s so liberating for women in Talinbanistan to be shot in soccer stadiums for letting the veil slip. It’s so liberating for teenage girls to be gang-raped in France. It’s so liberating for young ladies in a multitude of countries to be beheaded by their brothers for having a boyfriend.
Ah, the sweet wind of Liberty sweeping across our globe!
I actually heard the girl when they interviewed her for that quote. She was born and bred AMERICAN and obviously no f*cking CLUE what that veil means to the rest of the world. Stupid, ignorant, college-la-la-land spoiled princess.
