Cardinal Dolan
Pope Francis could be a handful:
9.37 John Bingham reports:
It looks like the 76-year-old Pope is going to keep his minders on their toes. He started his pontificate with a ride on a bog standard minibus instead of a special car. He is reported to have nipped out into Rome last night. And this morning he was up with the lark and scooted half-way across the city to pray at the Papal basilica of St Mary Major, taking even the dominicans by surprise. There are already comparisons being made with John XXIII whose reign was expected to be a quiet affair but ended up revolutionising the church.
This could be fun.
I like that this new Pope is uber traditional but it worries me that he’s a Jesuit. You know that they’re like.
He likes tango, too.
Jesuits are not exactly uber traditional – they tend to have senses of humor. Which the “one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church” could use a lot more of.
I’m hopeful about this one. Jesuits are about the only Catholics I can seriously discuss religion with. (No, I’m NOT Catholic.) I’ve had many an interesting discussion with Jesuits I’ve met, though.
Not, please note, arguments. Discussions. I learned a lot about Catholics from them. Hope they learned something from me, too. They seemed to find some of my questions very interesting, so perhaps they did. One may hope…
Dear Kathy,I am the source for Catholic discussion.I was an altar boy from 1960 to 1965
There are very Americans with more knowledge of Christianity and Catholicism, than me.
You seem to be a seeker of truth. If you have questions,I could answer them.
The Catholic church’s area of growth is LatAm/Africa, so it makes a ton of sense for them to have chosen someone from there.
