    Hell, Islamic law allows the persecution of any non-Muslim, not just Christians.

    Ah yes, the ever-authoritative Wikipedia informs us that Thomas Arundel reigned 1397-1398, was charged with treason by Richard II, deposed and replaced by Roger Walden, then restored in 1399 by Henry IV until his death in 1414. So there is a precedent.
