Damn Straight

About time he said something on this issue I agree with:

When the president was asked at a Rose Garden question-and-answer session whether the anthem should be sung in Spanish, he replied: “I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English.”
“I think people who want to be citizens of this country ought to learn English,” Bush said.

Dubya should apply that kind certainty to protecting our borders as well as the National Anthem.

    Heck yeah, Gunny

  5. It’s not just that they sang it in Spanish (with which some Spaniards would have severe disagreements with, I mean Mexicans singing Spanish)? Not in Barcelona.
    They re-wrote the lyrics too.
You got a good native-country song? Something that really resonates and makes you proud of your gloriouis history? Written by a famous figure in the past? A song of wars fought-hard, and battles won – battles paid-for in blood and citizenship? One that embodies the hardship and suffering – that which stirs you and your noble soul – the essence of your native land??
How about WE re-write your old-country song in our own words and language, change a few things that we need to change – so it addresses our modern-day needs and wants. And sing it in English?
    Sort of like the
    living constitution thing…
    Yeh right.

  6. Mr. Bingley says:

Yeah, if they sang a straight translation that would be one thing, but to re-write it to fit their agenda?
    I don’t think so.
