Dear Congress

Right now.

Today.

You pass a special CR to continue paying the troops regardless of what happens with the budget.

Kisses,

Bingley

ths UPDATE: What’s also being lost in the sauce here is that the younger folks hit that commissary ~ trust me, it’s a MOB SCENE ~ on the first and fifteenth, when that paycheck hits. That barely lasts them to the very evening of the next day before the next payday.

Guess what closes with this shutdown?

That commissary. That no tax, stretch-your-dollar-if-you-have-one-left lifeline is GONE.

And if you’re OVERSEAS? That commissary IS your lifeline for your family in a foreign country. Try buying food on the local economy in Japan. That’ll set you back some beaucoup dinero.

Oh, wait!

You have NO MONEY!!

Can someone explain why social security and medicare payments continue being made during Federal gov’t shutdowns, but not payments to the people who are putting their very lives on the line for our country?

  2. tree hugging sister says:

Because little old ladies are a Democratic voting block.

  3. Gary from Jersey says:

Ave, Democrats distain the military but love welfare leeches.

  4. Mr. Bingley says:

Funny how those military votes always seem to arrive from overseas a couple weeks late.

    If at all.

  5. Yojimbo says:

And sometimes don’t count even when they arrive on time because certain groups spend a lot of time writing four page memos on how to deny the franchise.

  6. tree hugging sister says:

And the credit card bills they won’t be able to pay are all big Democratic contributors, so those late fees add handsomely to the bottom line.

  7. Ave says:

I really need some chocolate today.

  8. major dad says:

    Different pot of money Ave.

  9. Ave says:

But why, after all I ‘m married to a Democrat!

  10. Mr. Bingley says:

We all have these heavy burdens to bear, Ave.

    As your Sister can attest.

  11. Ave says:

Why Bingley, when did you become a Democrat?

  12. Mr. Bingley says:

    Ouch!

I’ll make sure to plan some memorable meals for you in a few weeks, m’dear…

  13. Ave says:

And I’ll bring you the very best Swiss box wine I can find! XOXOXOX

  14. Mr. Bingley says:

    All is forgiven!

The continuing resolution would fund the entire Dept of Defense budget for the rest of the year–including Pentagon pet projects and military personnel who aren’t in combat zones. I have a real problem funding those when we’re cutting back cops on the street and firemen at state and local levels.

  16. JeffS says:

Jim, we are discussing the Federal budget. Aside from grant programs, you’re bringing oranges to a discussion about apples.

I suggest contacting your state representatives and local officials. As I have been doing.

“Can someone explain why social security and medicare payments continue being made during Federal gov’t shutdowns, but not payments to the people who are putting their very lives on the line for our country?”

Umm… as someone whose father (and other elderly relatives) were in WWII… a lot of those SS and medicare payments are being made to people who put their lives on the line in the past.

However, those who have decided to dump the ones now doing the same…should THINK AGAIN. Seriously. VERY seriously.

  18. Ave says:

    I certainly agree.
