At Der Spiegel. If you follow the link back to Der Spiegel from Fausta’s you will see a picture of a burqa clad woman (I guess) with one of the scariest captions I have ever read
Women who would rather not wear a burqa can now slip around it electronically.

disgusts me to no end. I’m sure the audience applauded and talked about Gosh how this technology really empowers those women, doesn’t it? Aren’t we so culturally non-judgmental that we help their slaves have email! Ooh, pass the vegan canapes and I’d love another glass of that organically grown Chardonnay to toast the liberation this will bring!
It just sickens me to no end how the supposed ‘progressive’ people in this country continually enable the oppression and subjugation of women here and around the world.

It’s all this willy-nilly “it’s their culture!” nonsense. 200 years ago, it was our culture to deny women the vote and sell black men and women as slaves. Culture changes, it isn’t something to be preserved as is.
Just the use of the words “charming” and “burqa” in the same sentence makes me ill.
“Slip around it”? So which is it–right, or wrong? Wait, I forgot who was writing this article. How silly of me.
Medieval-style oppression and 21st century objectification, all in one.
Makes me want to vomit.
Not only is this dhimmification and demeaning to women, it could easily be rendered useless by the medieval types who don’t even want to have women dressed “inappropriately” electronically; a lot of Muslim countries clamp down on anything even remotely pr0nographic. I recall one hooraw about cell phone pictures of a girl prancing around with only a military jacket.
So in swoops the Wahhibists and their ideological comrades, and shuts off even this pathetic placation attempt by the dhimmis. Hardly a win, IMHO.
This just proves “progressives” don’t give a damn about anything except massaging their overinflated egos and keeping up appearances.
The Wahhibists should have those burquas pounded up their asses with a pool cue.
What I can never figure out is why Western Christians must accommodate Islamic immigrants.

I don’t know why we accommodate them. Well, I can guess. There are two facets. The first is american christians who have fallen under the sway of “jesus is my best bud” and seem to believe that christian “love” requires them to never admonish or correct wrong behavior, because it might make them appear judgmental or hurt somebody’s feelings. The second are, as you allude to, the leftist children of the 60s for whom america and the west are the root of all that is wrong in the world, and anything that hurts them is worth doing.
I read one comment over at Jules’ place that went something like, “People are acting this way because they are afraid, but won’t admit that they are afraid.”
Denial can take many subtle forms. Willingly embracing dhimmification is likely one such form.
