Exactly What I Thought

Three random, unlucky soldiers told to “clean that shit up”. Happens a million times a day on any given base anywhere in the world.

…A NATO military official said last week that it appeared detainees were exchanging messages by making notations in the texts. The Western official confirmed reports that after the writings were discovered, two Afghan-American interpreters were assigned to go through the materials at the library and that 1,652 items were removed.

The items, which included the Korans, were placed in boxes and the Western official confirmed that a decision was taken to dispose of them because of a lack of storage space and because of the notes scribbled in them.

At some point a group of soldiers on a work detail came and removed the books to throw them away. The Western official told The Associated Press on Saturday the three soldiers on the garbage detail had no idea what they were carrying to the burn pit.

The Afghan workers then realized what was being burned and tried to extinguish the flames, some burned their fingers trying to salvage the books. Afghan government officials said initial reports indicated four Koran texts were burned.

But because you’re dealing with murderous, unhinged, 7th century savages, THEY should “face a disciplinary review” for taking out the TRASH? Trash that those same savages had already desecrated?

Every parent and spouse of American troops should rise up and FLOOD the DoD, Congress and White House with vehement objections to this farce.

Obama makes me SICK.

And the bastards at the White House refuse to say they are not “surrendering” them to “Afghan Justice.”

  2. JeffS says:

    Obama makes me SICK.

    I second that.

  3. Michael Lonie says:

If Obama surrenders those soldiers to the Afghans he should be impeached PDQ. If anybody lower in the Chain of Command turns them over they should be court martialed. I don’t know what the charge should be, but I’m sure we can find something. The old style military codes had an article, the 97th in the Army code, “Conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline”. There must be some similar clause in the UCMJ. That will do for a start.

I thought we were told that translations of the Quran were’t really Qurans, that it could only be read accurately in Arabic. I guess that’s only when it’s not convenient to encourage riots against non-Muslims.

Pull our, tell them they are welcome to live in the 7th century if they want, but that if anybody from Afghanistan ever harms us again, if any Americans are killed by them as a result, even one single American, we’ll nuke the whole place forward into the Old Stone Age.

  4. Yojimbo says:

He won’t surrender them. If he did he would not be re-elected, and he knows it.

If this were next year, and he was still preident then all bets would be off.

It’s interesting to see how pieces of the story are slowly being leaked to the U.S. public, maybe as pre-conditioning to some larger response like a quicker exit strategy from Afghanistan. I’m just a civilian and I don’t know much about military things, but as for the problem of the 3000 insurgents being held in that prison, if an Afghan/Taliban bomb went astray mayber there would no longer be such a security threat for our loyal Afghan security force colleagues to deal with any more.

  6. Ebola says:

Between this and trying to gut tricare the military is going to have severe retention problems.

  7. Gunslinger says:

“Between this and trying to gut tricare the military is going to have severe retention problems.”

It wouldn’t surprise me if that part of Obama’s plan for our troops.

  8. Crusader says:

A friend suggested we simply begin burning a Koran a day until they become accustomed to it. They say it takes 60 days to develop a habit.

  9. Skyler says:

We need more koran burnings. But we need to make them anonymous so that they can’t focus on one individual like they did that preacher from Florida.

  10. Ave says:

Burnings and bombings. I’m not feeling particularly kind towards these animals any more.

  11. Ave says:

And here I must tender an apology to animals – as my little cat is curled up on my lap – I did not mean to insult them. Bottom line it is obvious that Afghanistan is too weak to survive so it will fail regardless of how many American lives we have given and are willing to give. It’s time to let it fail and get out of there to fight another day for something that can succeed. Meow.
