March 29, 2005 — THE brush-back pitch thrown by The New York Times at the New York Yankees in an editorial on Sunday had Bronx Bomber executives accusing the broadsheet of hypocrisy and bias yesterday.
The Times editorial — which accused the Yankees of “acting like a superstar free agent and asking for the moon” in its plans for a new stadium — never mentioned that the Times Co. is a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox and has a substantial self-interest in stopping the Yankees from building a new, more profitable stadium.
A Yankee insider snickered, “The Gray Lady’s Red Sox are showing.”
