I Found a Quote That Covers the Attempted Gun Grabbing That’s About To Reoccur

We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

  1. Syd B. says:

    Old Ronnie knew stuff.

  2. JeffS says:

Right on schedule, here is Senator Feinstein, flapping her pie hole in her usual ignorant fashion.

  3. Syd B. says:

    Feinstein said this:

“We must ask ourselves if an individual whose family called police with concerns about mental health, who is receiving therapy and who has had several run-ins with police should be allowed to own multiple firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. When anyone, no matter their mental health or history, can so easily obtain any gun they want and as many as they want—we must recognize there is a problem.”

As much as I hate to say it, she, in this particular case, makes some sense. I think the GOP has to look at universal background checks as an alternative, otherwise the anti-gunners are going to gain favor over time.

  4. JeffS says:

Syd, two points, and then I will let this lie:

First, if a person is so mentally ill so as to be denied access to firearms, why is that person not locked up? Because, if you read into the matter, you will find that Rodgers used a knife to kill 3 of his victims. Universal background checks on guns would not have done a damned thing to save them. Feinstein is cherry picking reality here.

Second, background checks are nothing more than backdoor firearms registration. I had one state legislator personally tell me as much … and she was supporting a universal background checks bill (said support was later retracted). That was the stated intention of the primary bill sponsor, himself a police officer. This only gets worse on the Federal level, when the BATF is involved.

Universal background checks are not a deterrent to criminals. They just treat law abiding citizens as criminals. You are buying into the leftie rhetoric. Open your eyes.

  5. Syd B. says:

I’m not suggesting that some kind of background check system is going to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. I do believe that mentally unstable people should not have the same access to guns as the rest of us and I’m assuming that I’m not mentally deranged. Yes, in this case, he used a knife in addition to a gun, however, in the world of mass murderers, a gun is going to be a much more efficient killing tool and far more deadly than a knife. Crazy is crazy and I’m not attempting to get into what causes that, but if the right’s argument is going to be that even crazy people should have unrestricted access to guns, then they will potentially be losing support for their efforts to battle the gun ban/control people who wish to apply their agenda on a much wider basis.

By the way, you’re the first person, perhaps in my life, that accused me of buying into the leftie rhetoric. Thanks for the smile.

  6. JeffS says:

Syd, I must point out that you just agreed with a major gun grabber on a concept that even you state is not effective.

If you want to REALLY address the problem, target how mental illness is handled in America, not universal background checks; that person should not have been roaming the streets, let alone have access to knives.

Or at least be logically consistent (unlike Senator Feinstein), and extend universal background checks to include knives.

  7. JeffS says:

PS: I never said that crazy people should have guns, nor am I aware that there is any such argument being made.

And please note that ATF Form 4473 already asks about mental illness, item 11f. A “YES” answer means no approval of purchases. Lying on this form is a Federal offense.

Assuming that matters to crazy people, of course.
