I Hate to Be an Alarmist

…but HOLY CRAP!!

Lego Says It’s Running Out of Toys
Children hoping to get Lego toys for Christmas may be in for a disappointment.
The Danish toy maker is having a hard time keeping up with demand for its popular plastic building blocks as toy stores stack their inventories for the Christmas season, a company official said Tuesday.

When Crusader hears this, he’ll be curled up in the fetal position so fast it’ll make your Lego X-Wing fighter spin.

OK, the marketing and operations guys are paid to make these kind of projections, and get them right. The bulk of a toymaker’s sales are over the holiday season, so Lego is leaving an enormous amount of money ont he table. Somebody screwed up, and this article should have included some announcements about the exit of some senior managers. But it doesn’t, and I’ll bet dollars to (Dunkin :-p) donuts that no one will get fired over this. Is this further evidence that Europe just can’t compete?
Since the whole damn contient takes off the entire month of August, when the 4Q orders for raw materials whould have to be made, I vote yes on the rhetorical question above.

I had to make a little run to the supermarket this weekend, and gues what to my wondering eyes should appear? :-p

This is probably a market ploy to get people stampeding to the stores and snap up boxes upon boxes of Legos. Ain’t nothing like a panic to encourage hoarding.
