I Have to Wait For The Michael Jackson Verdict…

…before I can rampage like an oliphant through this. Okay, okay, a teeny, tiny taste…

Autry hears immigrant activists
Mayor declines to apologize for using the word ‘illegal’ in his State of the City speech.
…A coalition of advocacy group leaders sought an apology from Autry for using the term “illegal.” They told him they believed his comments last week portrayed illegal immigrants as an economic burden. They said that image fuels hatred, especially when the contributions made by immigrants are left out. Members of the coalition asked Autry to use the word “undocumented” in the future.

Bad words! Aw, my feewings were hurt!
These ‘undocumented visitors’ sure get the lingo down quickly, don’t they?

  2. Crusader says:

Jacko was cleared. Return to your lives citizens…….

  3. Ken Summers says:

Thank you, Crusader, for that completely unnecessary and unwanted waste of bandwidth.

  4. The Real JeffS says:

The bad news is, the media will now focus on the personal and self-inflicted problems of some other has-been celebrity………..
Man, it’s things like this that make me long for the days of pre-cable TV.

If you break a law, you have done something ILLEGAL! Thus if you break the law by entering the country illegally, you are an ILLEGAL immigrant.
Here was the best quote from the piece:

“I cannot apologize for standing up against abuse, exploitation,” he said. “If the word ‘illegal’ is demeaning, I hate the word, but we do have laws.

    Well, duh!
When did it become wrong to call an act by its proper name?

For my money the best quote was “there are no illegal people, only illegal actions”. Hate the ilegality of the immigration, love the immigrant, as some dude once almost said.

  7. Dave J says:

Saying there are no illegal aliens is also pretty fucking insulting to all the LEGAL aliens in this country, i.e., the people who actually followed the law in coming here.

  8. Like my sainted mother-in-law (‘Victoria Regina’) who has no patience with the Hispanics moving into her neck of the woods. (Again, for the record, she’s Panamanian by birth, American with a vengence.)

We just had a big Green Card party on Sunday for our friend Lyne, whom Mr. B met when he stopped by last month. She is from Iraq. You would not believe the hoops she had to jump through. If she ever wants to be naturalized, the flag might have more stars on it by the time she takes the oath.

  10. Well, bless her heart for doing it the right way, in spite of the obstacles!

  11. Habib says:

    Whatever happened to wetbacks?

  12. Mr. Bingley says:

wetbacks, a descriptive derogatory term for Mexicans who swim the Rio Grande to cross into Texas so that they can move about to other states, pick vegetables, cut grass, and get driver’s licenses so that they can Motor/Voter and vote for Democratic candidates.
It is illegal to use that term, and soon it will be illegal to call it illegal.
