I’m Sure Only the Lipitor Lobby
…kept them from completely jettisoning cholesterol levels as the ultimate food demon.
The U.S. government is poised to withdraw longstanding warnings about cholesterol
The nation’s top nutrition advisory panel has decided to drop its caution about eating cholesterol-laden food, a move that could undo almost 40 years of government warnings about its consumption.
The group’s finding that cholesterol in the diet need no longer be considered a “nutrient of concern” stands in contrast to the committee’s findings five years ago, the last time it convened. During those proceedings, as in previous years, the panel deemed the issue of excess cholesterol in the American diet a public health concern.
The finding follows an evolution of thinking among many nutritionists who now believe that, for healthy adults, eating foods high in cholesterol may not significantly affect the level of cholesterol in the blood or increase the risk of heart disease.
The greater danger in this regard, these experts believe, lies not in products such as eggs, shrimp or lobster, which are high in cholesterol, but in too many servings of foods heavy with saturated fats, such as fatty meats, whole milk, and butter.
It ALWAYS comes back to BUTTER.
Fat guidelines lacked any solid scientific evidence, study concludes
Researchers claim dietary advice around fat consumption, followed by millions for the past 30 years, should never have been issuedGuidelines warning people to avoid eating fatty foods such as butter and cheese should not have been introduced, new research has found.
Dietary advice issued to tens of millions warned that fat consumption should be strictly limited to cut the risk of heart disease and death.
But experts say the recommendations, which have been followed for the past 30 years, were not backed up by scientific evidence and should never have been issued.
Generations of Americans have been brainwashed and ROBBED*. Pitch your Parkay packets, people!
No longer weep into your mound of mashed ‘maters that you simply “Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”, because IT CAN be if you have the courage to make it so!
FREE YOURSELVES.
*In the interest of full disclosure, casa de major dad has always been a Manufactured Butter Substitute-FREE Zone, because I LOVE 1) butter 2) ingredient panels with only 2 ingredients, vice a paragraph
My family doctor will be elated with this news. She has been saying for years that the cholesterol health risk was a fabricated phenomenon, created by the drug industry, for obvious reasons. I was a bit reluctant when she first suggested that I not worry about cholesterol counts, however, she furnished me with substantial clinical data, (mostly from Britain) that showed that there were no statistical evidence that heart disease was higher in high cholesterol patients. This revelation has been a very long time coming.
The science is settled and the consensus is clear.
DENIERS!!!!!!!!!!
When the cholesterol story broke on the CBS Evening News last night, their resident MD was STILL fighting the good fight about it. I’d had the same reaction after research your doctor did, when major dad’s trended way up. There was just too much evidence that it’s an individual’s BODY making it, 99.9% independent of whatever he put in his mouth. Besides the pharmaceutical lobbies, think about the insurance rates they charge you for elevated levels. They have no reason to want to lose that revenue stream, either.
I wanted to be buried with a pizza before this came out. Now no one will think that’s odd.
HALLELUIAH AND PASS THE BUTTER.
Also, someone please call Paula Deen. Vindication is SWEET!!
Gary, I think you’ve got nothing to worry about. 🙂
Better living through chemistry! Sure. I did not believe that for a minute. Butter from Elsie has been on my table with interruption. Butter is my bacon.
Chancy: pork roll, eggs over easy fried in butter, and cheddar on a kaiser at our house, Saturday morning.
Doctor’s orders 🙂
mmmmmmmm………
BUTTER!!!
This is why we should never believe people who tell us what to eat.
I’m going to have some ice cream tonight.
I switched back to whole milk in celebration. My cereal never tasted better.
Now, if only some great redeeming health value could

The Science, once again, gets unsettled.
I’m reminded again of one of Tommy Lee Jones’ excellent little speeches in Men in Black: “Centuries ago, everyone KNEW the Earth was the center of the universe; then everyone KNEW that the Earth was flat; and yesterday you KNEW that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you’ll KNOW tomorrow.”
As if life isn’t hard enough, without all these false myths getting in the way of enjoyment. If my mother was still alive, I’d have great pleasure in telling her that I never went blind.
