Via Tim Blair we hear that the Swift Boats will sail again!
NORFOLK, Va. — A riverboat squadron departed Thursday for Iraq, the first deployment of Navy swift boats to a war zone since Vietnam.
About 100 members of the Riverine Squadron 1 will integrate with Marines patrolling the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, eventually replacing the Marine force. They will patrol those waters to combat terrorist operations.
The ‘new’ Swifts are pretty cool. Hell, when they plane out at speed they have less of a draft than Chuck Rangel.
Question of the day is which of their officers will be “reporting for duty” in 2036?

There was that secret Christmas mission into Pakistan…
The funny thing is that the navy was very slow in coming to this game, for what reason I don’t know.
The boats belonged to the USMC and we did this mission for about three years. It used to be called the “Small Craft Unit” but the CMC decided the USMC should not be in the small craft business, so we renamed it to “Dam Support Unit.” It’s one of the most absurd examples of idiotic bureaucratese I’ve ever witnessed in my life.
“Get the Dam Support Unit here now!!!”
Has a certain ring to it….
Oh, that was an unending joke. We had the Dam Communications Shop, the Dam Logistics Shop, etc.
But the best one was the Dam Chaplain. I think he liked that title better than anyone!
Pass the damn ham? And the f*chin’ mashed potatoes, too.
And isn’t it Charlie Rangel–that Schumer guy is Chuck.
Well, it usually is ‘Charles’, but since and I are such tight buds I’m forgetting myself and getting overly familiar… 😉
And that Schumer guy is schmuck.
