Juan Carlos Stepping Down

Despite some problems of late, as always involving kids, I will always honor and deeply respect him for his courage in the face of the Coup in 1981 and the wonderful common touch he displayed during the Olympics in 1992.

I hope he enjoys his well-earned retirement.

I have a lovely picture of him in front of the store, with Queen Sofia, waving to Don and I on the sidewalk. He was a delightful, charming visitor to our little city, and it just capped off my general good impression of him.

Think he might be interested in taking over here? If we’re going to be lorded over I’d rather Juan Carlos Alfonso Víctor María de Borbón y Borbón-Dos Sicilias than that jumped-up shøt-stirrer in the White House.

His role in suppressing the coup was noble and good. But this was awesome:

Spaniards used the King’s remark as cell phone ringtones…

    I’d forgotten that, Mark! D’oh!!!!!

King JC’s been bad news for a while, & not just for killing the elephant. Apparently he slapped his driver, had 2 paternity lawsuits, cheated on his wife with 1,000 (!) women, and currently has his mistress living at the palace.

Mexican humorist Paco Almaraz pokes fun at him (in Spanish) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLQ9c0QOBJc&feature=youtu.be&a
