Last Night, Gwen Ifill Was a Pseudo “Journalist”
She shocked the hell out of us.
She actually asked Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, who was the sole focus of the segment, two pointed questions during the interview. The first was…
GWEN IFILL: Congressman, how did we get to this point? When the Democrats were in the majority, there wasn’t a budget passed either.
…while the second put him on the spot after a diatribe about throwing seniors to the wolves in Ryan’s medicare budget plans.
GWEN IFILL: Aren’t the seniors grandfathered, anyone 55 years and older, grandfathered in under this plan?
Oh, she nailed him nicely, but then lets him tapdance it immediately into Medicaid, which has…nothing to do with nothing in the question. WHIFF!
Of course, he answers not one point: regurgitates demagogic blather, “our plan” this and that, with not a figure, nor fact, nor plan in evidence, and she doesn’t FOLLOW UP on any non-answer (leading to my “pseudo” appellation), but hey! Who woulda ever thunk she’d have asked to begin with? Must be a new openness at PBS, eh?
