Nowhere in This NBC News Weekend Report on Mean Old Police Abusing Peaceful, Kumbayah Singing Occupiers
…will you hear one single word about ANY crime committed by ANY Occupier ANYWHERE.
EVER.
Apparently, there just weren’t any.

Couple this report with the hysterical (literally and figuratively) “Poet-Bashing Police“ op-ed in the NYT today (“…The deputy sheriffs, all white men, except for one young woman, perhaps Filipino, who was trying to look severe but looked terrified, had black truncheons in their gloved hands that reporters later called batons and that were known, in the movies of my childhood, as billy clubs….“) and I was almost goaded into shedding a tear for the stifled flower drum song, the loss of their innocence at the hands of these monsters in stormtroopers’ uniforms…
Not.
UPDATE: Oh, just a BIT more context on the pepper spraying in this longer clip than the viral one. “Fuck the police!” who just happen to be surrounded, for starters. “We use our voices! You use weapons!” for the chorus and the Chancellor ordered the protestors moved.
From the comments:
Ya gotta love the chancellor.
She orders the campus police to remove the protestors, then calls it ‘chilling’ when they do.
I’m sure the police are glad she has their backs…
Really. Might as well be Oakland.
UPDATE: More pepper spray brutality goes “POOF!” under scrutiny…and longer video.
Much as I detest the OWS goobers. I really don’t get the point to pepperspraying a bunch of people sitting on the deck. Especially when either way you wind up carrying them off. Shoulda peppersprayed the crowd, lol.
Who wants to carry a hippy covered in pepperspray? They smell bad enough to start with.
I really don’t get the point to pepperspraying a bunch of people sitting on the deck.
The #OccupyCretins created a dangerous situation by forming an angry mob, a movement that is clearly associated with violence (a point that NBC did not point out, thank you Sis). Including against the police.
And if you think being in the middle of an angry mob is not a dangerous situation, think again.
The #OccupyCretins were ordered to move. They didn’t move. They were peppersprayed. Indeed, it’s a safe bet that they WANTED to be peppersprayed, to prance about screaming police brutality. Like that OWS twit in New York, who pretended to be run over by a police motorcycle. As clearly demonstrated by the “martyrs” of OccupyMilwaukee.
It’s all about framing the message, Ebola. It sounds like like #OccupyCretins out-maneuvered the campus police, and the campus police defended themselves.
In the end, the hippies got what they deserved. Or maybe not….if you live in Syria.
This is at UC Davis the most peaceful, educated in city in California. My son graduated from
there and the cops don’t have anything to do except hassle young males who are usually quite harmless. The other occupy movements, however are out of control with drug addicts and homeless people.
All this could have been avoided if they moved when instructed to do so by the police.
The first amendment guarantees the right to protest.Don’t worry the cops in the video will all go on disability or paid leave for inhaling the pepper spray and leech off the taxpayers for the next 55 years.
Like I said, shoulda peppersprayed the crowd. 😛
The media’s been hoping for a “Kent State” event and it looks like they will settle for this nonsense.
The media should get peppersprayed.
Peaceful FTW!!!

Shame they couldn’t arrest THAT asshole.
But the comments are priceless…
Like I said, shoulda peppersprayed the crowd.
I’d pay to see that!
Considering the reaction from those being sprayed it couldn’t have been too bad. I don’t see anybody flopping around and screaming. They should have moved when they were told, no sympathy here.
Meanwhile last Friday, over at Berkeley, the police were maintaining order by beating up a 70 year old former national Poet Laureate, Robert Hass, as he attempted to help up his wife, who they had already knocked to the ground. The English professor was on campus because he works there; the students were on campus because they’re students. It’s not entirely clear what the cops were doing there, beating people with truncheons and squirting around pepper spray. Possibly they were also exercising their First Amendment rights to public assembly and free expression.
(Already linked that “Poet-bashing” story above, JD. HIS version, actually.)
Major dad:You’re right, it looks like they used the weak watered- down pepper spray. They probaly bought the
stuff at the ‘dollar store’
