Pardon My Skepticism and Wet Blanketness a la SkylaEr

…on the eve of their first World Series ever, BUT…I hope they turn this down.

Rockies aim to trademark ‘Rocktober’
Slogan describes club’s run to National League Wild Card, World Series

Exposing my ancient roots to derision, I have to protest. In the early/mid ’80’s, “Rocktober” was a big part of the KROQ/KLOS ~but especially~ KMET (‘The MIGHTY Met’) SoCal FM experience for us ~ stuck in traffic on the 405 heading home, or jettin’ out to Newport Beach or Balboa on the weekends.

It’s not a Rockies original. So print your t-shirts, fellas, but leave the memories alone.

That term has been in use forever. “Rocktober” was used by a local radio station here in New Orleans long before the Rockies existed. The Rockies just want to get their grubby hands on some of the loot.

  2. Skyler says:

I’m pretty sure that’s why they wouldn’t be able to trademark it.
But that won’t stop their lawyers from arguing otherwise in court for decades.

  3. Skyler says:

Oh, and it’s Skyler not Skylar. Sheesh. 🙂

  4. The_Real_JeffS says:

What is this “World Series” that you speak of?

What is this “World Series” that you speak of?

    That’s an excellent question.

  6. Jeez. This in in that dopey realm where The Donald tried to trademark “you’re fired”. Fat chance, dolts.

  7. Nightfly says:

Sorry Ken. “Fat chance, dolts” is a registered trademark of the Disney Corporation, along with “jasmine” (the spice as well as the name), “Magic Kingdom,” and the color pink. Pay the Mouse.
(“Pay the Mouse” is also trademarked. I owe Disney eleven cents.)

  8. Kate P says:

I’m not buying into it until they add some good German beer and call it “Rocktoberfest.”

  9. memomachine says:

    Hmmmm.
On the other hand if some place in Maine started a beer & lobster party and called it “Rocklobsterfest”.
Well I can’t argue against that one.
As long as I get an invite.
